Penrith Panthers host the Wests Tigers in NRL Round 16 on Saturday night at Panthers Stadium. The Panthers are the form team of the competition at the top of the ladder, while the Tigers' season has been lost before their eyes after a torrid month of football.

Panthers Form & Team News

With a relatively easy run home, the Panthers look to have all but sewn up the 2020 minor premiership.

They are airborne having won 10 straight games, the latest of which was a 38-12 win over Cronulla Sharks last week, and look set to add to that run against the Tigers

Viliame Kikau (suspended) and Api Koroisau (calf) are out for Penrith, causing a reshuffle in the forward pack. Mitch Kenny starts at hooker, Billy Burns is onto the bench, James Fisher-Harris moves to lock and Isaah Yeo to second-row.

Brain To’o returns onto the wing and Brent Naden shifts to his preferred centre role, forcing Tyrone May to the bench.

Tigers Form & Team News

It has been a horror month for the West Tigers, one in which they have lost four of their last five matches.

After going down 38-16 to the Sydney Roosters last weekend, they find themselves stuck in ninth position on the ladder and are four points out of the top eight.

Star hooker Harry Grant returns from a knee injury, forcing Jacob Liddle to the bench with Josh Reynolds dropped to the reserves.

Alex Twal starts at lock pushing Matt Eisenhuth to the bench alongside the recalled Shawne Blore. Tom Mikaele starts at prop for the dropped Russell Packer.

The Tigers team list for Saturday can be found below:

The Panthers came away 19-12 victors last time the two sides met in Round 8 this season.

Panthers vs Tigers Betting Odds

The Panthers are unsurprisingly heavy odds on at $1.21 with Wests the $4.50 outsiders. The line has been set at +11.5 points for the Tigers.

Panthers vs Tigers Match Up

Nathan Cleary is currently enjoying a season to remember, with the young halfback taking his game to another level in 2020. In career best form, he is the general of the Panthers side. Although the loss of Api Koroisau will be felt, Cleary has the touch to overcome that.

On the other side of the field, Cleary faces the seasoned veteran in Benji Marshall. Making his 320th career appearance on Saturday, he may not be the quick-stepping kid who stamped himself as a teenage superstar, but he has evolved his game over time. With the return of Harry Grant likely to free Marshall up, he will be essential behind any chance of the Tigers salvaging their season.

Panthers vs Tigers Key Stats

  • The Panthers are bidding for a record 11th straight win.
  • The Panthers have won 6 of the last 7 matches between the two sides.
  • The Tigers haven’t won at Panthers Stadium since 2013.

Although the Tigers' season has disintegrated before their eyes, it is little coincidence that Harry Grant was missing during this time. The Panthers have lost their star second-rower and hooker Viliame Kikau and Api Koroisau, while the Tigers are boosted by the return of Grant. They will be hungry to bounce back and can cover the line.
