Penrith Panthers vs Sydney Roosters
The Roosters have a dreadful record against top four teams and have a big chance to set that right in the finals opener against the Panthers in the lion’s den on Friday night.
The Roosters’ game plan will be simple - to run their big men up to Nathan Cleary and test out his suspect shoulder which is likely to be needled up.
If they can put Cleary off his game, then the upset is on. But the Panthers halfback is a tough kid and is certain to be well protected by the big boppas around him.
At home, playing for a week’s break against an injury and suspension riddled Roosters side, I think the Panthers can cover the start.

Melbourne Storm vs Cronulla Sharks
Star fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen (leg) is in doubt for the Storm but they have an ideal back-up in boom youngster Sualauvi Faalogo.
The Sharks come into the game as underdogs but on a high after a morale-boosting 40-20 defeat of Manly last weekend.
Cronulla do have a major worry over prop Tom Hazelton (knee) and he seems likely to miss the game.
The Storm have the form player of the comp - halfback Jahrome Hughes - calling the shots in attack and he has a capable back-up in Cam Munster who is hitting form at the right time after a long layoff with injury. Storm too good at home.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Newcastle Knights
Newcastle have lost their last eight games in Townsville and in a sudden death match, that’s a worrying stat.
Added to their woes, star centre Bradman Best broke down at training on Thursday and is a big out.
The Cowboys have been up and down this season but gave themselves a boost by thashing the Bulldogs last weekend.
With strike power all over the park, the Cowboys should prevail. But if Kalyn Ponga can get time and space, he could make it tough for the home team. He is a true x-factor and big-game player.

Canterbury Bulldogs vs Manly Sea Eagles
The Dogs are back in finals footy after nearly a decade but their week has been soured by the Josh Addo-Carr drugs test incident and his subsequent decision to drop out of the team.
Cameron Cirlado’s men have conceded nearly 80 points in the past two weeks but have strike backs Matt Burton, Bronson Xerri and Jeral Skelton coming back in.
Tom Trbojevic returns from a shoulder injury for Manly but, like Cleary at Penrith, is unlikely to be 100 per cent and will need injections to numb the pain.
Manly has a bit too much experience in the key positions and that should get them home.
