Newcastle Knights vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Tips

The Knights will host the Rabbitohs in what could be the round's most crucial match heading into the final few weeks of the home-and-away season. A win for either team could see them jump as high as 6th on the ladder and go a long way into securing their spot in the finals in 2023.

Our models are giving the Knights a four-point victory and I am not going to argue with the data. The Knights have won their last three at home and have not conceded more than 18 points at McDonald Jones Stadium in their last five.

Although Souths have had good away form this season I'm going to take the Knights. Considering the defensive woes of Souths, who have conceded plenty of points in the last half of the season, I am taking Newcastle to score over 22.5 points.

Bradman Best has been in good tryscoring form for the Knights and has a good record against Souths in his career so I like the centre for a try.

  • Newcastle haven’t lost in 6 matches, including their last 3 at home.
  • Souths have conceded over 22.5 points in 8 of their last 11 games.
  • Newcastle haven’t scored less than 26 points in their 6-game unbeaten run.
  • Bradman Best has scored 3 tries in his 4 games against Souths in his career.

Head to Head

South Sydney have won their last three games against Newcastle by a margin of at least 12 points.

Their match in 2022 ended with a 40-28 win to the Rabbitohs, at McDonald Jones Stadium, with Cody Walker the star with five try involvements, two Tries and three Try Assists.

Newcastle Knights Form

Besides league leaders the Panthers and the Broncos, the Knights are the inform team of the NRL with six consecutive wins.

To put their streak into perspective, they have beaten four bottom-eight teams and two top-eight teams during their run.

The fact of the matter is though that they have done it with a fair amount of flair, led by fullback Kalyn Ponga who is in career-best form.

The Knights have had an average winning margin of 25, including four double-digit victories.

Newcastle Knights Team News

Bradman Best returns in the centres with Enari Tuala dropping back to the reserves.

Jackson Hastings was cleared of injury and will start at halfback.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Form

South Sydney’s season is on the edge of collapsing, holding in the top eight by the skin of their teeth.

Two unconvincing wins against St George last week and Wests two weeks prior have aided in the Rabbitohs occupying eighth spot on for and against ahead of the Cowboys.

Souths have averaged 26 points against in their last five matches and considering they have played the three lowest-ranked teams in the league during that period, that is not a good sign.
