New Zealand Warriors vs Newcastle Knights Tips

The Warriors have a reasonably good recent record against the Knights and were very strong last week against an improved Titans outfit. The Knights attack too was functioning well, albeit against a weak opponent, despite missing their star fullback and first choice five-eighth.

This game could well see plenty of points scored, with the Knights prevailing by a close margin.

  • New Zealand Warriors won 19-6 against Gold Coast Titans in Round 1.
  • New Zealand Warriors have seen at least 40 points in 32 of their last 43 matches against Newcastle Knights.
  • Newcastle Knights won 32-16 against Canterbury Bulldogs in Round 1.
  • Newcastle Knights have seen over at least 42 points in their last 7 matches.
  • Newcastle Knights have conceded an average of 29 points per game across their last 7 matches.

Head-to-Head

There have been 43 games between these teams, with the Warriors slightly ahead. They have recorded 22 wins to the Knights' 20, while one game has been drawn.

The Warriors have the wood on the Knights in recent times, winning seven of their last 10 clashes.

This will be the first time these sides meet at the Central Coast Stadium.

New Zealand Warriors Form

The Warriors ended 2020 in much better form than they started it, and began their 2021 campaign with a draw against the greatly improved Gold Coast Titans in their trial.

Last weekend in Round 1, the Warriors produced arguably the upset of the opening round, when they humbled the Titans with a convincing 19-6 victory.

The Warriors kept Gold Coast pointless for 74 minutes at Central Coast Stadium in the performance of the round.

New Zealand Warriors Team News

Euan Aitken injured his ankle last week is expected to be out for at least eight weeks. He will be replaced in the centres by Adam Pompey.

The rest of their line-up remains unchanged from the side that beat the Titans last week.

Newcastle Knights Form

The Knights' season petered away meekly at the end of 2020, however it did see them return to the finals for the first time in seven years.

In the pre-season they were outclassed by the Melbourne Storm 30-10.

They opened their 2021 campaign against a Canterbury Bulldogs side that, for the past few seasons, has been notoriously bad at scoring points.

The Knights lead by eight points at halftime, before doubling the margin at fulltime in a 32-16 victory. The win was more impressive given it was achieved without superstar Kalyn Ponga.

Newcastle Knights Team News

Connor Watson is named at lock and Sauaso Sue moves to the bench after the two swapped places prior to kick-off last weekend.

Other than that, there are no other changes to the Knights side that beat the Dogs in Round 1.

Kalyn Ponga and Blake Green are still both unavailable.
