New Zealand Warriors vs Manly Sea Eagles, Round 6 2024 - Expert Prediction

The Sea Eagles looked real impressive again last week beating the three-time reigning Champions Penrith, however, we have not seen that caliber of Manly playing away from 4 Pines Park (Vegas doesn’t count) this season. The Warriors on the other hand have looked the goods over the past three weeks both at home and on the road, even breaking a seven-game losing streak against South Sydney last week,

I was sold on Manly after the first two weeks but it was a little like a purchase from Temu, once I got it I realised it didn’t have the quality that the picture may have perceived. Even with their win against the Panthers, I expect that they will be found out again this week at Go Media and will go down by a margin larger than the line with the Warriors covering the 6.5 points as favourites.

The Warriors defence has been mirroring its form from the 2023 season, allowing just 5 tries over the past 3 games, as Andrew Webster’s men use their hard-hitting and suffocating defensive work to be the platform of their success. There defensive line will be a stronghold against Manly which will be the key to this game staying Under the game total of 41.5 points.

On the tryscoring front, I am looking out the back to Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad who was impressive in his first match of the season last week. Manly have conceding tries to opposing fullbacks and the Warriors No. one will get his first of the season this week.

  • The Warriors have won by 8 points or more in their past 3 matches.
  • Manly has lost both away games this season and had an away record of 5-7 last season.
  • The Warriors have conceded just 8.66 points on average in their past 3 games.
  • Manly has conceded 4 tries to opposing fullbacks in the past 2 games.

Head to Head

The Warriors broke a three-game losing streak against Manly last season, winning their round 25 matchup 29-22 at Go Media Stadium in the only match between the two clubs last season.

The head to head record is dead-even at 4-4 in all matches played from 2019.

The Warriors did the dirty on Souths powering home to a comfortable 34-4 win to give them their third consecutive win of the season after dropping the first 2 games of the year.

After letting the Bunnies score the first try in the fifth minute, the Warriors were never bothered by South again, smashing them with possession, territory, run metres and linebreaks.

Andrew Webster will be most impressed with the Warriors defensive effort over the past three weeks which has emulated the performances of 2023 which saw them finish in the top-four.

Manly had a huge bounce back performance after losing to both the Eels and the Dragons in consecutive weeks, beating the Penrith Panthers 32-18 last Saturday. The Sea Eagles are a different beast at 4 Pines Park, especially in attack, entertaining their fans with a clinical display breaking the Penrith line 7 times in the match.

The Manly halves were on-song with Daly Cherry-Evans recording a try along with 2 try assists and 2 linebreak assists, while Luke Brooks had a try assist and 2 linebreak assists.

Manly now just need to show that they can play with consistency away from home if they want to be classed as a contender in 2024.
