Melbourne Storm vs St George Dragons, Round 22 2024 - Expert Prediction

The Melbourne Storm will have no trouble against an inconsistent Dragons outfit and will push them aside with ease, covering the huge 19.5-point line and putting up another big score against St George.

The Storm are getting healthy and that is a scary thought considering they are already two wins clear at the top of the table and have won seven straight games.

The Dragons are fighting for a spot in the eight, but have not gone well against top teams this season and when they have been losing their attitude and effort is under real question, conceding big points and losing by large margins.

Expect the Storm to put on a masterclass and cover their big totals and margins with Will Warbrick adding to the three tries he scored against the Saints last time they played and cross for another one or two.

  • The Storm have won 16 straight games against the Dragons in Melbourne.
  • St George have an average losing margin of 27.3 this season.
  • The Saints have averaged 39.5 points against in their 9 losses this season.
  • The Melbourne right winger has scored 5 tries in their past 3 games against St George.

Head to Head

The Storm have not lost to St George in Melbourne since the Qualifying Final in 1999, where they got their revenge and won the Grand Final against the Dragons in the same year.

There have been 16-straight victories between the Old Olympic Park, Marvel Stadium, the MCG and AAMI Park since that day.

The Storm have also won the past 3 most recent matches against the Dragons.

I am not sure how it is possible with the Storm on top of the ladder, but their immaculate season is somehow flying under the radar a little considering they have only lost 3 games all year and have had all sorts of injury trouble to their key players in their spine.

They are two wins ahead of the Panthers on the ladder without really setting the stats columns alight in any exuberant fashion. They lead the league with 6.2 linebreaks per game otherwise they sit between 2nd and 6th in most categories, playing a consistent game in every aspect.

They may have come into their game last week against Parra a little light with the Eels hanging around for a while, but they put their jets on in the end and got a 32-14 victory and pulled away in the second half for their seventh consecutive win.

Sua Faalogo has been moved to the reserves with the successful return of Cameron Munster last week as Tyran Wishart moves to the bench.

The Saints have been winning one week and getting belted the next since the beginning of June, struggling to find any real consistency in their game all season when you look at it.

They have had a tough schedule over the past couple of months suffering big losses to Manly, Sydney and most recently Penrith where they went down 46-10 with Nathan Cleary running ragged after returning from injury.

The Saints have conceded an average of 39.5 points in their 9 losses this season with 30+ point scores against them in 8 of those 9 games, with a real win or bust attitude.

In 10th spot on the ladder and on 24 points which is good enough for eighth, they are still a chance of beating the odds and making the finals this season, but only if they can get it together soon and string some wins together.
