Parramatta have found a small attacking spark with Talagi in the side, however, it is their defence that has let them down this season and it will be the case again with Melbourne expected to put up 30+ points on their way to a 13+ win.

Melbourne have lacked their killer instinct in attack this season but the return of Xavier Coates will boost their options which will open things up for their grease lightning at the back with Faalogo expected to cross for a try.

  • Melbourne’s average winning margin against Parramatta since 2019 is 26.4 points.
  • Parramatta have lost by 13+ in 4 of their past 5 games.
  • The Eels have conceded 30+ points in 4 of their past 5 games.
  • The Eels have conceded a try to opposing fullbacks in their past 4 games.

Head to Head

Parramatta were the bogey team for Melbourne before 2023, with the storm losing to the Eels in four straight matches, however, Melbourne put that horror story to bed with two wins last season over the Eels.

The Eels pushed the Storm to golden-point in Round 1 with Harry Grant getting a cheeky try in the extra period to lead the Storm to a 16-14 win. There were no such problems in Round 22 with the Storm running away with a 46-16 victory at Marvel Stadium.

Melbourne’s five game winning run was put to a stop at AAMI Park on Saturday by the Sharks, who ran them ragged through the middle to get the win 25-18. The Storm were missing their key man Jahrome Hughes, with Melbourne not losing this season when the New Zealand halfback is in the lineup.

Despite the loss, Melbourne are going about their business nicely in 2023, playing sound football defensively, averaging 18.1 points against per game. If there is room for improvement it is on the attacking side of the ball, where they have been disrupted heavily by injuries week in and week out and have been unable to present that flawless flow in the backline that Craig Bellamy’s side is known for.

The Eels suffered their fifth defeat in six games, getting beaten by Brisbane 30-14 at Commbank Stadium. Also getting hit with key injuries to Mitch Moses and Clint Gutherson, Parramatta have not been able to compete at all really in 2024, winning just three games this season.

A shining light was once again young-gun Blaize Talagi who was thrusted in at fullback, his third different position for the Eels this season. The 19-year-old scored a try, made 3 Linebreaks and ran for a game-high 215 metres.

The Eels have really struggled defensively as well this year, conceding the third-most amount of points (26.9/Game) and the most Linebreaks (6.6/Game) of any team.
