The Newcastle Knights got the better of Melbourne in their round 3 clash and now the Storm will get their revenge at home at AAMI Park, after having to to recoup with the bye last week.

The Storm have now settled with Jahrome Hughes and Tyran Wishart in the halves and the combination will blossom this weekend against the Knights who found wanting last week against the Bulldogs. Expect the Storm to put on a total of over 28.5 points with Xavier Coates continuing his good tryscoring form.

  • Melbourne have won 5 of 6 games at AAMI Park this season.
  • Melbourne have beaten Newcastle by 13+ in their last 3 games at AAMI Park
  • Melbourne have scored over 28.5 points in their past 3 matches against Newcastle at AAMI Park.
  • Xavier Coates has scored 5 tries in his past 4 games.

Head to Head

Newcastle beat Melbourne 14-12  in round 3 of this season. To note, both Cam Munster and Jahrome Hughes were missing in the match as Melbourne lacked the attacking prowess against a resilient Knights defence.

The Knights also won their previous match with the Storm, however Melbourne hold a 5-2 head to head record against Newcastle since 2019.

Melbourne's season has been scarred with injury and it appears to be taking its toll with the Storm losing 2 of their past 3 matches. The Victorians enjoyed the bye in round 13 and it was well needed after going down to Manly 26-20 in round 12.

Missing Cam Munster, the Storm looked a little flat in attack and lacked the creativity and unpredictability of their star five-eight. The most concerning factor for the Storm though was their defence, missing 40 tackles and conceding 6 linebreaks in the game. Manly also dominated the Storm with 62% of the territory as Jahrome Hughes was the only real kicking option for Melbourne in the absence of Munster.

Newcastle’s four-game win streak was brought to an abrupt halt by a 32-2 loss to the Canterbury Bulldogs in round 13. The Knights found some form beating the Dolphins, Warriors, Tigers and Titans and kept their season alive after winning just two of their first seven matches.

Newcastle conceded an average of just 15 points per game in their four victories but all was undone by a Matt Burton-less Bulldogs side last weekend. The Knights also failed to score a single try despite having 35 tackles in the Canterbury 20m.

The Newcastle forwards have been giving their team the best possible chance ranked 6th in the NRL with 1455 average run metres per game, however, missing Kalyn Ponga the Knights lack the creativity in attack against strong defensive sides like they did against the Dogs.
