Manly Sea Eagles vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Tips
The new halves combination of Luke Brooks and Daly Cherry-Evans can lead Manly to a narrow victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the first game of the double-header in Vegas to kick-off the NRL 2024 season.

All eyes will be on Brooks and Cherry-Evans as they find their chemistry as the new-look halves partnership at Brookvale. The former Tigers halfback will enjoy a pressureless transition form Wests, shrugging off his million dollar price tag and can now focus on his own game.
The injury riddled Souths backline will find it hard to contain the speed of the Manly outside backs on the big stage at Allegiant Stadium and that is where the Sea Eagles will attack and it is how they will get the underdog victory in the first game of the season.
With both teams outside of the normal environment, it is expected that this game will follow the repetitive round one trend in the NRL of games hitting the under. With a game total of the key number of 42.5, the likely result is definitely below that score.
Manly’s backline is full of speed and a big year is expected from Tolutau Koula who will play in his third season for the Sea Eagles. Koula and wing partner Jason Saab are probably the two fastest players in the league and they will combine for a try against an inexperienced and untested pairing of Richard Kennar and Jacob Gagai
- Souths lost 9 of their last 13 games last season.
- Round 1 game totals in the NRL averaged 35 points in 2023.
- The round 4 game between Manly and Souths in 2023 ended with a game total of just 25 points.
- Tolutau Koula scored 6 tries in his final 7 games for Manly last season.
Manly Sea Eagles Form
Manly’s 2023 appeared to improve as the season went on but rightfully missed the finals, despites winning their four of their last seven games and going down to 3 top-eight teams in that span.
The Sea Eagles ended the year with an 11-12-1 record and were just not creative enough offensively to be a true contender in 2023.
The addition of Luke Brooks should give them more versatility and creativity in attack in 2024.
Manly Sea Eagles Team News
The big news from the Manly camp is obviously the move of Luke Brooks to Brookvale from Campbelltown, but that is well documented.
The latest news is that Tom Trbojevic will start his first game for the Sea Eagles since round 15 last season and will not only join his brother Jake in the starting line-up, but also his brother Ben, who has won a place in the second row.
Ex- rooster Jaxson Paulo will add even more speed to the backline of the Sea Eagles claiming a wing spot with Reuben Garrick moving to the centres.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Form
South Sydney ended 2023 in atrocious form losing nine of their last 13 games and slipping out of the top 8 on the final weekend of the season and missing the finals for the first time since 2017.
After blanking the Tigers in round 11 last season, the South defence fell apart, averaging 27.3 points against per game which would have been good for fourth-worst in the NRL, compared to yearly averages.

Verdict
The Manly Sea Eagles are tipped to enjoy a fruitful new halves partnership and get the win over Souths.
This game is expected to follow the trend of unders in round one and getting the half a point over 42 is a luxury.
Tolutau Koula is expected to have a big year in the centres for the Sea Eagles and can go over in Vegas with great odds as an anytime tryscorer.
