Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins Tips

The Gold Coast Titans are tipped to taste another heavy defeat on Saturday when their QLD rival the Dolphins come to visit Cbus Stadium.

The line in this game has opened up surprisingly low in my opinion, giving the Titans just a 2.5-point start as the underdog, despite the Gold Coast suffering two hefty defeats in their first two matches of the season.

The Dolphins also suffered a 13+ loss in their opener but were much better against the Dragons both in attack and defence.

The Dolphins to cover the line as favourites, despite the Titans getting Jayden Campbell back. The loss of Tino Fa’asuamaleaui is going to damage the Titans even further and the work of a superstar like their captain cannot be replaced.

The Titans will struggle for field position and will not have too many opportunities to put on points so I am backing the Dolphins defence to hold the Gold Coast under 20 points in the match.

The Titans were extremely vulnerable on the edges against the Dogs which has me taking Euan Aitken for a try in this game.

  • The Dolphins won both matches against the Titans last season.
  • The Dolphins held St. George to 0 points last time they played.
  • The Titans have scored just 4 points in two games this season.
  • The Titans conceded 2 tries to second rowers in the last game against the Bulldogs.

Head to Head

The Dolphins won both matches against the titans in their inaugural season, with both games ending with a 2-point margin, 28-26 and 23-21.

Gold Coast Titans Form

The Titans have firmed in as $2.80 favourites with PlayUp to win the Wooden Spoon and rightfully so after the two shocking performances that they have put in this season.

The Gold Coast opened their 2024 campaign with a 28-4 loss at home to the Dragons and banked and backed it up with a 32-0 blanking from the Canterbury Bulldogs, while taking the bye in round 2.

It’s fair to say the Titans are having a tough run with injury but there is not a team in the NRL that should perform like that, with no attack and gaping holes in their defence.

Gold Coast Titans Team News

Tino Fa’asuamaleaui has been ruled out for the year with an ACL rupture in a massive blow for the Titans and the QLD Origin team.

The positive is that Jayden Campbell will return for the Titans and hopefully spark some sort of attacking footy. Keano Kini will drop out of the side.

David Fifita has been named in the reserves and could be just a week away.

Dolphins Form

The Dolphins took a shalacking in round 1 against their QLD rivals the Cowboys 43-18, but then did some beating of their own and doused the Dragons 38-0 at Kayo Stadium in round 2 before taking round 3 off with the bye.

Two really different performances from the Dolphins but I am inclined to lean more towards their improved performance against the Dragons.

The Dolphins have the building blocks to be around the eight this season and should continue to do well against teams in the bottom half of the standings and might snatch a win or two against a higher ranked team.

Ray Stone rejoins the interchange bench and pushes Jarrod Wallace out of the squad.

The line is way too short and the Dolphins will cover easily as 2.5-point favourites. The Titans attack is lacklustre and they should not score 20 points in this game.
Gold Coast's edge defence has been poor to start the year which gives Euan Aitken a good shot at scoring a try in this game at longer odds.
