Dolphins vs Canberra Raiders, Round 13 2024 - Expert Prediction

All the models are pointing towards a Dolphins win by 6+ points in this game even with their Origin stars missing, and I have to agree.

The Dolphins have been performing well this season and Trai Fuller has done a splendid job at the back in the absence of Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, so confidence is high in the newcomers, especially playing at their spiritual home Kayo Stadium.

The young Raiders have been more up and down than a yo-yo and their inconsistency has hurt them. I expect the Dolphins to capitize on that at home and put up a decent amount of points that will see them go over their Game Total of 25.5 points.

Jamayne Isaako is always a danger and will put the left-side defence of the Raiders under duress all match.

  • The Dolphins have won 3 of 4 games at Kayo Stadium in their first two seasons in the NRL.
  • The Dolphins have covered the line in 7 of 11 games this season.
  • Canberra have conceded over 25.5 points in 3 of their past 5 games.
  • Jamayne Isaako has 8 tries this season.

Head to Head

Both teams got a win in the Dolphins inaugural year in the competition in two one-score games. The newcomers got up 20-14 in Round 2 and the Raiders replied with a golden-point win 30-31 in Round 9.

The Dolphins sit in fourth place on the ladder and are having a stellar second season in the NRL so far, getting good results in their own backyard of Queensland.

Round 12 was a tough trip to New Zealand where Wayne Bennett’s men went down to the Warriors 20-24, unable to hang on to their 16-10 lead at halftime.

Despite the loss, it has been a much more rounded start to the 2024 season for the Dolphins, who have managed their injuries much better this season and have seen their development talent, like Trai Fuller, come up and play to first-grade standard.

The Dolphins are allowing just 20.1 points per game which is over a converted try less than what they averaged by the end of 2023, in their first year in the comp.

Dolphins Team News

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Felise Kaufusi are out on Queensland Origin duty and they will be replaced by Trai Fuller and Connelly Lemuelu respectively.

Anthony Milford has made his way back onto the Dolphins bench.

Canberra snuck home with two close calls in Rounds 9 in 11, coming back from 0-20 down against the Sea Eagles and holding on against Canterbury in Magic Round in a real slopping match filled with mistakes.

Last week they paid for their inconsistencies when they got put to the sword by the Roosters who trampled them 44-16 at GIO Stadium.

The Raiders have shown that the club is going to have a bright future, however, they are not quite there yet, playing real hot and cold footy throughout each match and from weekend to weekend.

Canberra Raiders Team News

Hudson Young will feature in the Blues side with Josh Papalii covering for him in the starting 13. Ata Mariota starts in the back row and Emre Guler moves to the bench.
