Canberra Raiders vs Brisbane Broncos Tips

Brisbane will be out for revenge when they travel down to GIO Stadium for Saturday night’s clash against Canberra.

The Raiders shocked Brisbane in round 6 at Suncorp which put them on a winning run that sees them in contention for a top 8 finish. The Broncos are looking to continue their unbeaten streak of six games and keep the pressure on the Panthers for the minor premiership.

I am on the Broncos all the way here considering the form curves of the two sides. Brisbane looks as dangerous as they have been since 2006 and this year could be the beginning of a new dynasty for the club.

I am taking the Broncs as 9.5-point favourites and expect them to barrel on the points and score over their Team Total of 28. There is also great value in Ezra Mam to score this week against a Raiders team who have not been able to stop running halves of late.

  • Canberra have lost 6 of 9 games against top-8 sides in 2023.
  • Canberra have lost by double-digits in 5 of 6 defeats against top-8 teams.
  • Brisbane have averaged 36 points in attack in their last 3 away games
  • Canberra have conceded a try to an opposition half in their last 4 matches

Head to Head

Canberra beat Brisbane 20-14 earlier this year to start them on a run of 10 victories in 12 games. Brisbane looked really flat in attack and never really challenged the Canberra defence.

Canberra have had Brisbane’s number since 2019, winning four of their last five matches including the last three at GIO Stadium.

Canberra Raiders Form

Canberra at least got back into the try-scoring column last week against the Bulldogs, however they couldn’t crack the egg of a 13+ victory in 2023 against the third-worst team in the league.

The Raiders managed to put together another 12-point win against Canterbury but the result didn't look safe for long periods of the game.

The Raiders’ recent performances have not made them look like a team that really deserves to be in the finals, as they did six weeks ago, although one more victory will see them seal their spot in top-8.

Brisbane Broncos Form

A win by Brisbane this week will see them secure an all-important home preliminary final, an extra life in September if need be and a chance to rest players in the final round of the home-and-away season.

After their 54-10 drubbing of the Eels two weeks ago, without halfback Adam Reynolds in the side, the Broncos are now on a 6-game winning streak and are fresh off the bye.

The men from Redhill have been averaging 37 points in attack during their winning run and have had an average margin of victory of 21 points.

Brisbane Broncos Team News

Corey Oates has been added on the wing and will play his 200th game for the Broncos.

Adam Reynolds is out with Jock Madden filling the halfback spot.
