Broncos vs Rabbitohs Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Friday night's contest between the Brisbane Broncos and the South Sydney Rabbitohs could be the most important match of the round.

Brisbane need to win to keep their finals hopes alive. The Panthers can still leapfrog the Broncos if results go their way.

A lean last month for the Bunnies has them sitting outside the top-four but a win on Friday could see them snare fourth spot ahead of Manly.

It's all to play for on Friday night.

Broncos Team News

The Broncos have two forced changes following last week's win over the Panthers.

Both Jake Turpin and Tevita Pangai will miss the game via suspension, with Sean O'Sullivan coming in to replace the Turpin.

In a boost for Brisbane however, star Matt Gillett returns following his absence with a back injury.

Rabbitohs Team News

The Bunnies have named skipper Sam Burgess, despite straining his quad against the Bulldogs.

Whether or not the Englishman takes his place in the side remains to be seen. Sam's brother Tom has been ruled out with a knee injury.

Liam Knight moves into the starting side and Mark Nicholls comes onto the bench.

Braidon Burns is also out with a hamstring injury and his place in the centres is taken by Kyle Turner.

Broncos vs Rabbitohs Head To Head

The Broncos were absolutely smashed off the park in this fixture earlier in the year but before that they had experienced a period of domination over the Bunnies.

Brisbane had won seven-straight games against Souths coming into this year, dating all the way back to August 27, 2015.

Broncos vs Rabbitohs Match Up

Payne Haas sealed the match against Penrith last week with a 73 minute try, but a lot more will be expected of the young gun with Tevita Pangai out.

The Brisbane halves will also have their game against Adam Reynolds and Cody Walker, who could run riot if they are not kept in check.

Broncos vs Rabbitohs Key Statistics

  • Brisbane has won seven of its last eight matches against South Sydney
  • Corey Oates has been the first try-scorer in each of Brisbane's last two home matches against South Sydney
  • Payne Haas has scored a try in two of Brisbane's last three Friday matches

Verdict

It looms as a tight contest but we're backing Brisbane to prevail.

While the result earlier in the year suggests the Bunnies would have the wood over the Broncos, the fortunes of both clubs has reversed dramatically.

Brisbane shouldn't have it all its own way but we think the home ground advantage will see them triumph and lock away a finals berth.
