Brisbane Broncos vs Canterbury Bulldogs Tips

Given the injuries and reshuffling to the Bulldogs side, their weaker defence in 2021 and the poor recent record at Suncorp, this game could see the Broncos end their losing streak. For value, look to a 13+ margin given the history of this fixture.

  • Brisbane Broncos has lost their last 13 matches.
  • Brisbane Broncos’ last win came against Canterbury Bulldogs in Round 9 last year.
  • Canterbury Bulldogs have won 1 of their last 9 matches at Suncorp Stadium.
  • Canterbury Bulldogs have won 1 of their last 11 matches.
  • Canterbury Bulldogs haven’t scored a point in their last 169 minutes of footy played on a Saturday.
  • Five of the last 6 matches between Brisbane Broncos and Canterbury Bulldogs has been decided by 13+ points.

There have been 57 games played between the Dogs and the Broncos since 1988, with Canterbury winning 24 and Brisbane victorious 32 times. The other game ended in a draw.

Honours are split evenly over their last 10 contests with both teams claiming five wins each with the Broncos winning last year's clash 26-8.

Brisbane Broncos Form

This current Broncos side have lost their last 13 games, making them just the seventh team in the NRL era (since 1998) to lose 13 straight games.

Their attack is dismal, scoring 20 points or more just three times in their last 20 games, and their defence is even worse, conceding on average 31.85 points per game over the same period. Only twice in that time did they keep their opponent under 20 points.

In Round 1 this year, the Broncos did lead at half-time against Parramatta Eels before being steamrolled in the second half in a 24-16 defeat.

Last weekend, Brisbane trailed by 18 points at half-time against the Gold Coast Titans, before outscoring their opponents in the second-half. But it was not by enough to avoid a 28-16 loss.

Brisbane Broncos Team News

The Broncos have made no changes to their side that played last weekend.

Payne Haas is still unavailable due to suspension, while Matt Lodge is another week or two away after suffering a hamstring injury.

Kotoni Staggs is set to remain on the sidelines until the middle of the year with his knee injury.

Canterbury Bulldogs Form

Last weekend the Bulldogs failed to score a single point against Penrith Panthers, making them scoreless for their last three hours of game time against the Panthers.

It was also the Dogs' 20th loss in their last 24 games, dating back to Round 24, 2019.

After just two rounds, they 0-2 for the season and are already the worst attacking side in the NRL in 2021. They were the second worst (ahead of only Brisbane) in 2020 and were the worst attacking side in 2019.

Canterbury have shown no reason why that will change this year.

Tui Katoa will replace Watene-Zelezniak on the wing for this clash. Corey Waddell comes into the run-on side, slotting into the second row to replace Faitala-Mariner.

Katoa moves to the bench while Marshall-King will start at hooker. Joe Stimson joins the starting 17 on the bench.
