2024 State of Origin New South Wales vs Queensland Man of the Match Predictions

Sometimes it is flare and sometimes in is work and sometimes it is the perfect combination of both that is the deciding factor as to who wins the Man of the Match award at Origin as the most influential player on the field.
  • 2024 State of Origin New South Wales vs Queensland Man of the Match Predictions
  • Queensland - Rueben Cotter (Prop)
  • New South Wales - Cameron McInnes (Lock)

  • Since 2017, 8 forwards, 5 fullbacks, 6 halves and 2 centres have won the MOTM honours.
  • Jake Trbojevic (Game 2, 2019) is the only member of the NSW team to have ever won a Man of the Match award at Origin level.
  • Lindsay Collins, Reuben Cotter, Ben Hunt and Daly Cherry-Evans have all won Man of the Match awards in Origin.
  • Only once in the NRL era has a player from the losing team received MOTM - Josh Jackson in 2017

Bets.com.au has put together their picks for the MOTM Award for Game 1 of the 2024 Origin series between New South Wales and Queensland.

Queensland - Rueben Cotter (Prop)

Built like a lock but as hard as front row forward, Rueben Cotter knows what it takes to play Origin footy, participating in the past two series. In 2023, he not only won the Man of the Match award in Game one, but was also awarded the Wally Lewis Medal for Man of the Series after putting in more work than a Destrier war horse over the three games.

Cotter made 136 Tackles at a 93.15% efficiency and made 328 Metres with 113 Post Contact Metres  throughout the series and will need to replicate those numbers again for Queensland who are running with a more agile bench that will see Cotter play big minutes.

New South Wales - Cameron McInnes (Lock)

It has been a longtime coming for Cameron McInnes, who should have made his debut for NSW a few years ago really. Just look at his smile and you will understand that he is build for this arena and you know  he will give the rest of his teeth if it means that he will help his team win Game one and get the series off to the best start for the Blues.

McInnes is a worker, making 60 tackles in a losing side for Cronulla against Penrith last week for example. But that is no surprise, because the Botany junior makes those types of efforts week in and week out for his club and for his teammates.

The Blues lock will be in the guts of this game for NSW win, lose or draw and it would not surprise me if he wins the Man of the Match even if the Blues lose.

Verdict

Queensland pick is Reuben Cotter
