2019 NRL Grand Final Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The defending champion Sydney Roosters meet this year's most surprising team the Canberra Raiders in the 2019 decider.

The Roosters were at their clinical best throughout the 2019 finals series, culminating in a staunch 14-6 win over the Storm at ANZ Stadium.

Canberra won its way through to the club's first Grand Final since 1994 after overcoming Souths 16-10 in a gritty contest. The Raiders survived a late scare to claim a famous win in the nation's capital.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet have the Roosters as $1.40 favourites heading into Sunday's decider and will be hard to beat with history beckoning.

Roosters Team News

The return of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves from his one-game suspension moves Siosiua Taukeiaho back to the bench and Lindsay Collins to the reserves.

Co-captain Jake Friend has been named on the reserves list with young gun Sam Verrills retaining his place in the starting side.

Raiders Team News

Coach Ricky Stuart has named the same 17 which advanced past the Bunnies in the preliminary final.

Hooker Josh Hodgson sat out training on Tuesday with a virus but is likely to take his place in Sunday's decider.

Roosters vs Raiders Match Up

Luke Keary and Jack Wighton might be Australian teammates in a month's time, but the pair will be the decisive players heading into Sunday.

Keary is surrounded by superstar teammates but it seems that when he plays well, the Roosters rarely lose.

Former fullback Wighton has been brilliant since shifting to five-eighth. He was stellar in the team's win over the Bunnies last week and for the Raiders to be any chance here he'll have to replicate that form.

Roosters vs Raiders Head To Head

The Raiders will need to defy history if they are to hoist the trophy on Sunday night.

Canberra has a terrible record against the Roosters in Sydney, winning just eight of 30 matches, and since 1995  they have managed just one win from 17 matches.

Roosters vs Raiders Key Statistics

  • The Roosters have averaged over six points more on offense than the Raiders over their last five games
  • The Roosters average six points a game less on defense than the Raiders over the last five matches
