2019 Australian Survivor Odds - AFL stars shaded by actress in market
Australian Survivor has been a hit with TV audiences and we've taken a look at the betting market.
Can former AFL footballer Simon Black win Australian Survivor?
Former AFL footballers Simon Black and Abbey Holmes remain right in the Australian Survivor betting frame as the battle to be crowned the king or queen of reality TV intensifies.
Black is at the $7 quote while Holmes is at the $8 mark via Ladbrokes, while ex-Tiger ruckman is a $41 outsider to win this year's season.
The trio sit well behind actress Pia Miranda ($1.33), who is the short-priced favourite to claim the Australian Survivor crown.
It's been an unlikely rise to the head of the Australian Survivor betting market for Miranda.
The popular actress was thrust into the Australian spotlight after a breakout role in cult-classic Looking for Alibrandi, but the self-confessed Survivor "super fan" had to put together a completely different preparation for her role on the Reality TV show.
The 46-year-old said she went through a vigorous training regime to be fit for the challenge.
“I prepared by just doing lots of physical activity, running, swimming, jumping off high-diving boards and doing lots of yoga,” Miranda told online publication Mamamia.
“I tried to go in physically fit but then I also tried to put on a bit of weight before I went in so I had a bit to lose.”
While the general public would believe that ex-professional athletes would have the edge over Miranda in terms of competitiveness, the actress believes she shouldn't be underestimated as the season wears on.
“I think I’m in an industry where you need to compete to get jobs, so it’s definitely something that I’m comfortable with.”
Australian Survivor airs 7:30pm Sundays to Tuesdays on Channel Ten.
