Vegas Golden Knights @ Montreal Canadiens Live Stream & Tips

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens will face-off for game no.6 of their best-of-seven Stanley Cup semifinal series on Friday, June 25, and the stakes could not be much higher.  Vegas must win to stay alive in this competition, while Montreal just need one more win to get through to the Stanley Cup final. Interestingly, the scoreline in the other semifinal between the NHL defending champions the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders is also 3-2, with Tampa just a win away from another Stanley Cup final.

On Tuesday betting underdogs Montreal scored a surprisingly dominant 4-1 win over Vegas in front of 18,000 fans in the T-Mobile Arena. That win gave Montreal a 3-2 lead in this NHL Playoff Semifinal series, and one more victory will send them through to a 35th Stanley Cup final. For the great Canadiens it would be a first final since 1993, the year they won their 24th title, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 4-1.

Vegas must dig deep and once again show that fighting spirit they have displayed in these playoffs when defeating the Minnesota Wild by four games to three in the first round, and again when coming back from 0-2 down to destroy the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 in the second round.
I’m backing the Vegas Golden Knights to do just that and win on Friday, defeating Montreal in a super-close game and taking this series right to the wire and a deciding match that will take place on Saturday.

  • Vegas finished 2nd in NHL West Division
  • Vegas finished 40-16 this season
  • Montreal finished 4th in NHL North Division
  • Montreal finished 24-32 this season

Head to Head

The Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights have faced each other just 10 times in regular-season games. The Montreal Canadiens currently lead this head-to-head by 7-3. These two teams played each other four times in 2021, with the score tied at 2-2. In their final game of the 2021 regular-season, the Golden Knights defeated the Canadiens 2-1.

Vegas Golden Knights Form

The Vegas Golden Knights have already been forced to battle hard in these NHL playoffs, and will have to do so again only harder if they are to stay alive in this competition and eventually progress to a second Stanley Cup final. In the first round, despite taking a 3-1 lead over the Minnesota Wild, Vegas were pegged back to 3-3 before winning the seventh game decisively 6-2. In the second round against the Colorado Avalanche, the Golden Knights had to come back from a 0-2 deficit, which they did so emphatically, they won the series 4-2.

We should remind ourselves that the Vegas Golden Knights have only been part of the NHL since 2017, yet they reached the Stanley Cup finals in 2018, and are just two games away from reaching a second Stanley Cup final. Unfortunately for them, the Montreal Canadiens need to win just one game to reach 35th Stanley Cup final.

Montreal Canadiens Form

The Montreal Canadiens have played so well in these playoffs it’s amazing to think they only scraped through to the playoffs after finishing fourth in the hastily arranged all-Canadian NHL North Division. However, such is Montreal’s incredible pedigree of 24 Stanley Cup victories in 34 finals, they are clearly rising to the occasion. The Canadiens haven’t reached a Stanley Cup final since 1993, which was also the last time they lifted the trophy.

Montreal are now just one win away from ending that drought, but will what must feel like enormous pressure get to the players? That certainly didn’t seem to be the case when they ran riot over Vegas on Tuesday, taking a 4-0 lead before the Golden Knights grabbed a consolatory late goal.

Verdict

The tension in this gripping Stanley Cup semifinal between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens must be unbearable for fans of both teams; Vegas must win on Friday or they are out of this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, while just one more win will put Montreal through to their first Stanley Cup final in 28 years.

The pressure on the Canadiens is enormous, and I’m predicting they will falter just enough for Vegas to grab a close victory. I’m backing the Golden Knights to win Friday’s game by the narrowest of margins – possibly in overtime - and square this series at 3-3.
