Vegas Golden Knights @ Minnesota Wild Live Stream & Tips

The Vegas Golden Knights take on the Minnesota Wild in the First Round of the NHL 2021 Playoffs on Sunday, May 23. This will be the fourth game of a best-of-seven series, with Vegas 2-1 up. On Friday the Golden Knights took the lead in the series with a 5-2 win over Minnesota.

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild played each other eight times during the NHL regular-season, with Minnesota finishing 5-3 up. While Vegas spent most of the regular-season top of the NHL West Division, they were ultimately pipped at the post by the Colorado Avalanche, even though both teams finished on 82 points from 56 games. Minnesota finished the season third in the NHL West Division, with 75 points.

In their NHL First Round Playoff, Minnesota got off to a good start, although their 1-0 victory could not have been much tighter. Vegas bounced back to win the second game 3-1, and on Friday they took the lead in this series with a decisive 5-2 victory. I’m backing the Vegas Golden Knights to move within one win of taking the series by defeating the Minnesota Wild again on Sunday.

  • Vegas 2nd in NHL West Division
  • Vegas finished 40-16 this season
  • Wild are 3rd in NHL West Division
  • Wild finished 35-21 this season

Head to Head

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild have played each other 19 times in NHL regular season games, with Minnesota leading this head-to-head 12-7. In their last 10 meetings over the past two seasons, Minnesota lead 6-4.  Vegas and Minnesota have played each other eight times this season, with the Wild 5-3 up. However, during the 2021 NHL Playoffs First Round, Vegas lead Minnesota 2-1.

Vegas Golden Knights Form

The Vegas Golden Knights finished the regular season second in the NHL West Division with a record of 40 wins and 16 defeats. The only team with a better record than Vegas were the Colorado Avalanche, although personally I can’t see how; both teams finished on 82 points, Vegas lost one game more than Colorado, but also won one more. In fact, no other team reached 40 wins this season.

Although the Vegas Golden Knights have only been part of the NHL since 2017, they are already established as one of the biggest teams the league, with all of the resulting expectation. They reached the Stanley Cup finals in 2018, losing to the Washington Capitals. This might the year Vegas go all the way.

Minnesota Wild Form

The Minnesota Wild finished the regular season third in the NHL West Division, with 35 wins against 21 defeats. Not bad for a team that were 6-6 at the start of February. In fact, Minnesota were they only team to finish the regular season with a winning record against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Minnesota went off the boil at the end of the season, losing their last two games to St. Louis 4-0 and 7-3, and may have carried that negative mindset into their playoff series vs Vegas. After just squeaking out a 1-0 win in their opening fixture on Sunday (May 16), they have looked steadily worse this week, losing the next games 3-1 and 5-2.

Verdict

This will be the fourth game of their NHL First Round Playoff series, with the Vegas Golden Knights leading the Minnesota Wild 2-1. After losing the first game 1-0 last weekend, Vegas hit back with 3-1 and 5-2 wins this week.

I’m backing the Vegas Golden Knights to defeat the Minnesota Wild again on Sunday, moving to within one match of winning the series 4-1. Vegas will win this game by three clear goals, in a matchup that will feature at least eight goals in total. Vegas hitman Mark Stone is my choice for Anytime Goalscorer.
