St. Louis Blues @ Arizona Coyotes Tips
The 2019 Stanley Cup winners the St. Louis Blues and the Arizona Coyotes are in the middle of a gruelling seven-match series, with the Coyotes leading 3-1, and three more matches to play, starting with their game on Saturday.
After winning the first game of the series in early February, St. Louis have now lost three straight to Arizona, whilst four matches against other teams have been postponed.
The West Division is wide open, and aside from the leaders the Vegas Golden Knights, all of the teams in that division have suffered four or more defeats, and each team is capable of both climbing the table and dropping down with a couple of good – or bad – results. Saturday’s game between the Blues and the Coyotes is a perfect example of just that.
I see Arizona’s run of success continuing on Saturday with another victory over St. Louis. All of their previous meetings had taken place at the Blues’ home, the Enterprise Center. Saturday’s game will be the first of three scheduled to take place at the Gila River Arena, Arizona’s home ground.
- Coyotes have won four straight NHL games
- Coyotes have beaten Blues last three matches
- Since 2018, Arizona lead 9-3 in 12 meetings
Head to Head
The St. Louis Blues and the Arizona Coyotes have played each other 50 times, with the Blues leading the Coyotes by 29 wins to 21. However, in recent years it has been the Coyotes who have had the most victories.
Arizona have won four of their last six meetings, including their last three. In the 12 matches the teams have played since the start of the 2018 NHL season, Arizona lead 9-3.
St. Louis Blues Form
St. Louis are currently second in the NHL West Division, having been deposed from top-spot by the Vegas Golden Knights last week. The Blues have won 7 games and lost 6 and are ranked 11th in the NHL League, which means that they still have a slim chance of grabbing a playoff place.
Sadly, the team that won their conference and the Stanley Cup just over a year ago is now a pale imitation of itself. St. Louis have lost their last three games, all against the Arizona, with three more matches against the Coyotes to come.
Arizona Coyotes Form
Arizona are currently 5th in the NHL West Division, but coach Rick Tocchet will be well aware that his team’s destiny is in their own hands.
Despite three of their recent matches being cancelled, the Coyotes have put together a decent little run of four victories in their last five games, and have won their last three going into Saturday’s game – all against the Blues.
Another win on Saturday will put them on 15 points, just one behind St. Louis. At the start of the month Arizona were bottom of the division, now they have a shot at eventually finishing second.

Verdict
Arizona are the team in ascension, and they definitely have St. Louis’ number; the Coyotes have actually been regularly defeating the Blues for three seasons now, with nine wins in 12 games.
Saturday’s result will make it 10, and I see the Coyotes defeating the Blues by less than three goals.
