Philadelphia Flyers @ Pittsburgh Penguins Tips

Two teams from the NHL East Division will play out the third episode of a three-game series when the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, March 6. Philadelphia are currently third in the division, two places above Pittsburgh, and both teams have designs on making the playoffs this season.

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have played each other four times already this season, with the Flyers leading 3-1. I’m backing Philadelphia to make that 4-1 on Saturday, thanks to the lethal strike partnership of James van Riemsdyk and Joel Farabee, and I see them winning this game by two clear goals in a match that will feature four goals or more.

  • Philadelphia 3rd in NHL East Division
  • Philadelphia 12-8 this season
  • Pittsburgh 5th in NHL East Division
  • Pittsburgh 12-10 this season

Head to Head

The Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins have played each other 95 times in NHL regular season games. Pittsburgh currently leads this head-to-head 50-45. In the 10 games they have played since the start of 2019, the Flyers lead 6-4. In their most recent game on Friday (March 5) Philadelphia defeated Pittsburgh 4-3.

Philadelphia Flyers Form

Philadelphia have played 20 games so far in the NHL regular season, winning 12 and losing eight, three via overtime shootouts for a total of 27 points. The Flyers are third in the NHL East Division, just three points adrift of leaders the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders who are both on 30 points.

The Flyers are enjoying a recent run of form, with just one defeat in their last five games. Philadelphia are currently involved in a three-match series with the Pittsburgh Penguins, losing the first game 5-2 but winning the second 4-3. The third game will take place on Saturday, March 6.

Outstanding for Philadelphia this season has been James van Riemsdyk with 10 goals and 16 assists, while his strike partner Joel Farabee has been almost as lethal, with 10 goals but just nine assists.

Pittsburgh Penguins Form

The Pittsburgh Penguins are currently fifth in the NHL East Division, just two points behind the Philadelphia Flyers, although they have played two games more. The Penguins have won 12 and lost 10 regular-season games, with one defeat the result of an overtime shootout. Pittsburgh have scored 68 goals this season, the second highest in the East Division, with only table toppers the Washington Capitals scoring more with 75. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh have also conceded the most goals with 71.

The Penguins are 6-4 in their last 10 games, with five wins from their last seven. Last time out, Pittsburgh were defeated by Philadelphia 4-3. Outstanding for the Penguins this season has been the attacking duo of Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel, who have both scored seven goals and provided 12 assists.

The Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins have already played each other four times this season, with Philadelphia leading 3-1. As well as this Saturday’s game, there are two more fixtures between them scheduled for May.
There’s very little to separate these two teams, however, I’m backing Philadelphia to win this match based off their previous record vs Pittsburgh this season, and the prolific goal scoring of their attacking partnership of James van Riemsdyk and Joel Farabee, who have hit the back of the net 20 times between them. The Flyers will win this game by at least two clear goals, in a match that will feature four goals or more.
