Edmonton Oilers @ Vancouver Canucks Tips - On-Fire Oilers to tame Canucks

The Edmonton Oilers take on the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL North Division on Wednesday, February 24. Edmonton are currently second in the division, with 12 wins and eight defeats, while Vancouver are second from bottom with eight wins and 14 losses.

The Oilers are six points adrift of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team who have been the best side in the NHL this season. In the NHL league, the Oilers are fifth, but with only two points separating them from the second placed Florida Panthers, that could change very soon.

I’m backing Edmonton to continue their incredible run of form since the start of February with a dominant performance against Vancouver. The Oilers will win this game by two clear goals or less, with a total of six goals are less for the game.

The Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks have played each other 96 times, with Vancouver  winning 57 games and Edmonton 39. Their last six matches reveal that both teams each won 3 games. In their most recent meeting in January of this year, Edmonton defeated Vancouver 5-2.

Edmonton are second in the NHL North Division with 20 points. The Oilers have won their last three games, and are 8-2 over their last 10 matches. Both of those stats are the best in the NHL right now, and would suggest that should Edmonton maintain their current form, they can feasibly catch Toronto and take over their position as the best team in the NHL this season. 

It truly has been a season of two halves for Edmonton; after their first nine games they were 3-6 and bottom of the division. However from the start of February they have been a team reborn; the Oilers are currently 9-2 for the month, a stat no other team in the NHL can match. 

If the Edmonton Oilers have been a much improved team in February, the reverse is true of the Vancouver Canucks; at the end of January Vancouver had a record of six wins and five defeats and were fourth in the North Division. However, since the start of February they have been in freefall, with nine defeats and just two wins. 

Vancouver have just finished a two-game series against Winnipeg, losing the first 2-0 and earning a point in the second game on Monday, after going down 4-3 in the overtime shootout.
