Can they go back-to-back or will a new name lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy? Fraser Stewart provides his predictions and tips for the 2021 season
Super Bowl Champions Tips
The obvious pick is either the reigning champions in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or last season's runners-up the Kansas City Chiefs.
Going back-to-back Super Bowl winners is hard to do and hasn’t been done since the New England Patriots achieved it in Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX. However, Tom Brady has done it before so he knows how to pull it off.
The Kansas City Chiefs have made back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, winning Super Bowl LIV and going down to the Buccaneers in the LV edition. However making three Super Bowls in a row is almost a rarity in the modern age, as the New England Patriots were the last to make three successive Super Bowls appearances in Super Bowl LI (winners) , LII (runners-up) and LIII (winners).
The Buffalo Bills look ready to take the next step this season after a stellar 2020 season which saw them win 13 games from 16 and top the AFC East Division.
The Bills had a deep run in the play-offs, making it to the AFC Championship game but fell to the Chiefs going down 38-24. They will have taken great confidence in their playoff run and believe they can go all the way.
The Bills were the second best offensive team in the NFL, having a total of 396.4 net yards per game. The were also third in the league for passing yards and net yard passing per game totalling 4,620 passing yards and totalling 288.8 net yards passing per game.
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Tips
Many people may chose the number 1 draft pick in Trevor Lawrence, but Justin Fields is one to take a look at this season and is my tip for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Fields was taken at pick 11 in the same draft as Lawrence, but had a fantastic year in college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He only played eight games for the Buckeyes but he still impressed with a passing completion percentage of 70.2%, 2,100 yards thrown and 22 touchdowns. What is more impressive is his rushing game, as he rushed 383 yards as well as five touchdowns.
NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Tips
Patrick Surtain II is my tip to take out the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year for the 2021/22 season. He had a fine year last season with the Alabama Crimson Tide as he made 22 solo tackles, had 18 assist tackles while having 38 tackles in total.
The cornerback only intercepted one pass throughout last year, but he made 25 yards with the interception and scored a touchdown, while he also defended 12 passes.
His stellar year with the Tide earned him a spot in the top 10 picks of the NFL draft, which caught the attention of the Denver Broncos who took him at pick no 9.
NFL MVP Tips
Patrick Mahomes couldn’t lead his Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory, but he still had a terrific season which saw him throw 4,740 yards and 38 touchdowns.
He was the runner-up to Aaron Rodgers in the NFL MVP last year, but I have a feeling that Mahomes is going to take it up another level this year, especially with the thoughts of the Super Bowl defeat in the forefront of his mind.
