NFC Division Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Our NFL season preview concludes with a look at the NFC division.

The NFC anything but clear cut, with all divisions open to at least two teams. The NFC South looks the hardest with three teams looking to reign supreme come seasons end.

Let's take a look at each division in the NFC.

NFC North Prediction

Many will argue this is a fight between two, though I think Chicago will wrap the division up once again.

The Bears finished the 2018 season with a record of 12 wins and 4 losses, with the tale of their season an agonising defeat in the wildcard playoffs.

Chicago has a very formidable defence which is tough to crack in most positions. Khalil Mack leads the defence, which was one of the best in the NFL last season. Quarterback Mitch Trubisky remains a work in progress but he's shown enough to suggest he could be a dependable shot-caller.

The Green Bay Packers loom as the Bears' biggest threat to the division.

They have drafted well for their defence, which was essential and the new coach Matt LaFleur will give the side a new perspective. Aaron Rodgers is the key and if he can stay healthy, there is no reason the Packers can’t return to the playoffs.

There's a lot of question marks on Green Bay so I'm making Chicago my best bet for the division.

NFC South Prediction

It's New Orleans' division to lose this season.

After suffering heartbreak in consecutive seasons, the Saints kept a lot of key players as they look to enter the post-season once again.

Based around the ageing yet skilful quarterback Drew Brees, New Orleans offence remains the key to the success of the season ahead.

The release of Mark Ingram to the Ravens and Ben Watson to the Patriots left doubt among the offence outside of their receiving corps, but  they were able to pick up Latavius Murray from the Vikings and tight end Jared Cook from the Raiders. Cook will fill a massive void that they haven’t been able to fill since Jimmy Graham.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Saints were ranked the 10th best team in terms of points allowed. If they can maintain that standard heading into the new season New Orleans will be a formidable opponent.

NFC East Prediction

The Dallas Cowboys made the playoffs last year and they will come out this season and prove it wasn’t a fluke.

Defensively, they finished in the top ten for points allowed and yards allowed per game. They did have issues with turnovers and sacks, hence the additions of veteran defensive end Robert Quinn from Miami and drafting a brilliant run-stopper in defensive tackle Trystan Hill. Any improvement in their defence will see them maintain their hold on the east.

The Cowboys season hinges on the availability of running back Ezekiel Elliott. Arguably the NFL's best rusher, if Zeke continues to hold out on his contract it spells trouble for a team that relies on his output.

Philadelphia is Dallas’s only real competition, but the Cowboys are the value to take out this division.

Best NFC East Bet: Dallas Cowboys - $2.65 at BetEasy

NFC West Prediction

The defending NFC Champions the LA Rams are the favourite to defend their crown and it’s hard to see many teams getting in their way.

Led by Jared Goff, the offence once again looks very dangerous. Todd Gurley and Cooper Krupp were both key parts of the offence last year and both are under clouds to start week one. If the pair return anywhere close to full fitness the Super Bowl once again beckons.

Aaron Donald leads a talented defensive unit who loses Ndamukong Suh to the Buccaneers and Lamarcus Joyner to the Raiders. To cover those losses, the Rams nabbed the experienced duo of safety Eric Weddle from the Ravens and Clay Mathews from the Packers. The pair have 12 Pro Bowl appearances between them, underlining the calibre of these pick ups.

The Rams are potentially Super Bowl bound once again and they are our safest NFC division bet heading into this season.

Best NFC West Bet: Los Angeles Rams - $1.57 at Ladbrokes
