Alive is making a strong push for the finish, trailing the leader, Andoo Comanche, by 60 nautical miles. Alive leads a pack including URM Group, Moneypenny, and Wild Thing 100, as they navigate past the NSW and Victoria border towards Bass Strait.

Andoo Comanche and LawConnect are engaged in a fierce battle for line honours. Only four nautical miles apart, they are racing down the east coast of Victoria into the Bass Strait. Andoo Comanche, moving at about 19 knots, is still behind her own 2017 race record time.

Incidents and Retirements

SHK Scallywag, a line honours contender, had to retire due to a broken bow sprit after an incident involving Andoo Comanche. This marks the end of Scallywag's participation in future Sydney to Hobart races.

Fleet Overview

Sticky and Maritimo 52 have also retired from the race, citing weather-related damages. The remaining fleet continues to navigate challenging conditions, including a strong south-west front with high winds and lightning.

Silver Fern and Sylph VI (with a cat onboard) are currently at the back of the pack, with Sylph VI being the oldest boat in the race.

A two-way battle looks in store for the 2023 Sydney To Hobart Yacht Race ahead of the start on December 26.

Defending champions Andoo Comanche ($1.53) are the red-hot favourites with LawConnect ($3.75) the other yacht to concentrate on in the betting markets.

SHK Scallywag are the only other crew at single-figure odds of $8.00 with odds from bet365.

For the last 77 years, the annual Sydney To Hobart Yacht Race has been a staple of Australian Christmas celebrations on Boxing Day.

Setting sail from Sydney Harbour on Boxing Day each year at 1pm, each team has to navigate their way across the Bass Straight to Hobart, overcoming howling winds, towering waves and intimidating conditions.

In 2022, Andoo Comanche were victorious after completing in 1 day, 11 hours, 56 minutes and 48 seconds. That was 27 minutes clear of LawConnect.

It was their fourth win having also triumphed in 2015, 2017 and 2019 previously. Can they come out on top again and win the race to Hobart in 2023?
