Greyhound & Harness Racing to debut on Saturday mornings in Victoria

Harness Racing and Greyhound Racing are set to host Saturday morning meetings from May 9 under agreements between both sport's governing bodies.

Victorian harness and greyhound meetings will feature on Saturday mornings for an initial three-week period from May 9-23, with the option to make it a permanent fixture in the future.

Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) CEO Dayle Brown and Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) CEO Alan Clayton issued a joint statement to announce the news on Wednesday.

“Saturday morning racing presents an important strategic opportunity for our racing codes," the statement read.

"The additional race meetings will provide extra earning potential for our hard-working participants and enable our products to reach new audiences during a period when people are hungry for sporting entertainment.

"We thank our Victorian Racing Industry (VRI) partners and Tabcorp for backing this initiative and welcome the initial three-week arrangement. Each of these meetings will be thoroughly reviewed from a wagering, broadcast and brand perspective.

"This will help guide our future strategy regarding Saturday morning racing. We are also pleased to be working so collaboratively on this project.”

Melton will host the three Saturday morning trots meetings, while the greyhound meetings will be held at Ballarat, May 9 and May 16 and Shepparton, May 23, with other tracks such as Warragul potentially added from June.
