Melbourne Vixens vs Sunshine Coast Lightning (Saturday @ 3:00pm at John Cain Arena)
Melbourne takes on Sunshine Coast to begin Round 9 in the Super Netball. First placed Sunshine Coast should be too strong for the eighth placed Vixens, despite giving up the home court advantage due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Queensland. The Lightning are coming off a stirring 67-65 victory against Collingwood last Saturday with GD Karla Pretorius playing a major role late with heroic defending in the dying moments. Melbourne will have gone 23 days since their last match due to last week’s fixture against the West Coast Fever not going ahead due to the team not receiving an exemption to enter Western Australia.
Match Odds (Sportsbet): Sunshine Coast Lightning $1.20 vs Melbourne Vixens $4.50
NSW Swifts vs West Coast Fever (Sunday @ 1:00pm at John Cain Arena)
Fourth placed Fever will look to leapfrog the third placed Swifts on Sunday in Melbourne at John Cain Arena. The undefeated Fever will look to continue their winning ways with the likes of Jess Anstiss dominating the midcourt. NSW recorded a comfortable 64-52 victory against the Queensland Firebirds last week, with GS Sam Wallace a standout shooting 49 goals from 52 attempts. West Coast Fever will also go over three weeks without playing a match, as their encounter with the Vixens was postponed last week. In round seven they easily accounted for the Firebirds on the road, winning 79-69.
Match Odds (Sportsbet): NSW Swifts $3.35 vs West Coast Fever $1.32
Adelaide Thunderbirds vs Collingwood Magpies (TBA)
Adelaide host Collingwood at Ken Rosewell Arena on Sunday. Collingwood fell agonisingly short of Sunshine Coast last week ultimately losing 67-65. Magpies shooter Shimona Nelson was a shining light in her 50th match, scoring 52 goals at 91%. Adelaide suffered their largest loss for the season at the hands of the Giants in Round 8, losing 57-41. Collingwood will start as favourites against Adelaide; however, we expect a close clash with one win separating the two sides.
Match Odds (Sportsbet): Adelaide Thunderbirds $2.00 vs Collingwood Magpies $1.80
Queensland Firebirds vs Giants Netball (TBA)
Queensland will host the Giants in Melbourne at John Cain Arena. In Round 8 the Firebirds were easily defeated by the NSW Swifts 64-52. Firebird centre Kim Ravaillion was a shining light, working tirelessly in the midcourt all game. Last round the Giants snapped a three-game losing streak, convincingly defeating Adelaide 57-41. Shooters Jo Harten (28 goals) and Sophie Dwyer (25 goals) were on song, shooting at 76%. The second placed Giants will go into the clash as deserved favourites, however if gun Firebirds shooter Romelda Aiken is in form she will give Queensland a chance.
Match Odds (Sportsbet): Queensland Firebirds $3.50 vs Giants Netball $1.30
