- The side beat the Vixens in the semi-final 71-62
- The Vixens finished at the top of the table with 48 points, losing twice in 14 games across the regular season
- The side edged past the Giants 55-54 in the preliminary finals
Head to Head
The two sides have played each-other four times across 2022, with the Vixens coming out on top 3-1. The Vixens won 45-43 in the Team Girls Cup along with a 75-66 and a 70-64 win in round four and 10 respectively.
Importantly for both sides is the fact that the Fever won the semi-final between the two in a 71-62 triumph. Form can be meaningless in a final as nerves come into play, but if the Fever can take an early lead, the Vixens may start questioning whether they have enough in the tank to beat their opponents.
West Coast Fever Form
The Fever were able to finish eight points clear of the Giants in third and a massive 16 above the Swifts in fifth. This meant they had secured their place in the semi-finals early-on, although they were forced to battle until their last few games of the season before they were assured of a place in the semi-finals for the top two.
That semi-final saw the Fever win in emphatic style as they brushed the Vixens aside in a 71-62 triumph. This victory secured a number of benefits for the Fever. First, they did not have to play another game before the final, meaning they are well rested, while they now have a major psychological advantage over their opponents in the final, who they beat only two weeks ago.
The Fever have looked like a very complete side this year and they have impressed on the court, with a ratio of 90% in their goal shooting alongside 81 intercepts, 113 rebounds, 822 penalties and 254 turnovers.
Melbourne Vixens Form
The Vixens went into the semi-finals as the team to beat, but they stagger into the final after a far from convincing run to the showpiece event. Their 71-62 loss to their next opponents saw them beaten comfortably, while they were made to sweat in their tight 55-54 win over the Giants in the preliminary final.
As is the case with most tournaments, form in the regular season means nothing. After all, if it was the be-all and end-all, then the Vixens would have easily beaten the Fever and made it straight into the final. Instead, they have had to dig in to ensure they made it to the last-two.
On the court, the Vixens have looked good, and actually better their next opponents in a number of metrics. They have 86% in goal shooting, 83 intercepts, 102 rebounds, 866 penalties and 264 turnovers.
Super Netball Grand Finals FAQs
When does the Super Netball Grand Finals start?
The game will start at 19:00 AEST on Sunday, July 3.
While the favourites going into this one are the Fever, we are backing the Vixens to bounce back from their disappointing defeat in the semi-finals to win the Grand Final. Their three wins over their opponents this year could also prove to be something that plays on the minds of the Fever too.
