The Melbourne Vixens survived an almighty scare in the last round as they edged past the West Coast Fever in a 73-72 win.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds were always going to be tough to stop, and so it proved across a season in which they tasted defeat just three times in 14 matches.

While they had the lowest goals for of any side in the top-four at 849, their defence has been the best in the competition, conceding just 701 goals. Clearly, their title bid has been built on an ability to keep the opposition at bay.

This was on full show in their last clash with the Vixens as they kept their opponents at arm's reach in a 68-43 win. If the Thunderbirds are to win this one, which I predict they will, I believe the match will see the Vixens frustrated in front of goal.

Melbourne Vixens Form

The Melbourne Vixens impressed across the season as they also won 11 of their 14 regular season matches, finishing on 44 points, level with leaders the Thunderbirds.

Their last match saw the Vixens hold their nerve in a 73-72 win over the West Coast Fever as they took their place in the Grand Final. While winning was all that mattered, the Vixens will be fully aware of the fact they have not played particularly well across either of their last two, while they have lost three of their last five.

While I predict that this will be a closer match than their last encounter, I am backing the Vixens to fall just short in the biggest match of the season.

Verdict

Adelaide Thunderbirds v Melbourne Vixens

I am backing the Thunderbirds to mark a superb season by securing the Super Netball trophy with a win over the Vixens. Their last clash saw the Thunderbirds romp to a big win, but I am not predicting it will be massively comfortable in a tight encounter.
