Wyong Tips July 31

Wyong Best Bet - Race 1 No. 1 Malfy

She's no spoil at short odds on offer but in one of the weaker Provincial Maidens we'll see, it looks a perfect opportunity to breakthrough following a pleasing debut.

A half-sister to a group two winner in Messene, Malfy is a daughter of Dundeel and typical of many of the progeny he's throwing, she does look yet another will eat up the mile and eventually get over more ground.

As was the case with her last trial, she was one-paced when the sprint went on via her Hawkesbury debut on July 12 over 1300m but stuck to the task and picked up late to be only around a length off the winner and was clearing out from the nearest rival behind her.

All of her opposition have all had plenty of chances (second favourite has had 20 starts) and with natural progression at start number two, Malfy can open her account as the best bet at Wyong this Friday.

Wyong Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 A Fortunate Lass

Although she has been a little costly this campaign, I'm willing to give her another look in one of the more suitable assignments she's seen all preparation.

After beating a handy one in Cinquedea back in December of 2018, she spent the whole of 2019 on the sidelines and has slowly improved over this campaign since a flat performance when resuming at Scone on May 15.

Following that, A Fortunate Lass finished off well to place in a few stronger races to what she finds here in fields that have included multiple winners and was incredibly unlucky last start when racing wide throughout and was only a stride off winning.

This is about D-day for the four-year-old daughter of Hinchinbrook who draws for a lovely sit just off a good speed with Christian Reith remaining in the saddle for what is his only ride on the card.

Wyong Value Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Call Me Mo

We made a case for this gelding last start when stepping up from 1400m to 1900m but had to settle for an honest second on the July 16 program from Gosford.

By Uncle Mo and out of a mare who only won at 2200m, the breeding did support that journey rise but behind the genuine Controlthewitness, he just couldn't quite quicken over the last 100m.

In a strong Benchmark 70 fresh over 1300 metres, he caught the eye late for fourth and rebounded off a slight flat run second-up to make ground albeit was never threatening a very talented Strawb on July 4.

The query now is him coming back to a mile, however, the Paul Perry stable do have a knack of pulling off these somewhat unconventional moves and Call Me Mo was a winner over this journey at a similar stage last preparation.

How many meetings are held at Wyong racecourse?

The Wyong Race Club hosts around 20 meetings a year.

The feature race is the Listed Wyong Gold Cup held in September each year along with the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes.

Wyong also stages a Magic Millions program in December every year which is one of the key lead-up events for the Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday in January.

How do I bet at Wyong?

To place a bet on the Wyong races you'll need to be signed up with an online bookmaker.

Generally corporate bookies provide betting markets a day or two prior to a provincial or country meeting at Wyong and a little longer for their few bigger/feature programs.

With any improvement at start two, Malfy should be breaking throughout via a very weak opener.

From a good draw and off a luckless last start effort, we're giving one more chance to A Fortunate Lass in Race 5.

Call Me Mo makes some each-way appeal in the last from Wyong this Friday.
