Read the reasons for our selections:
Caulfield Race 1 No. 1 Brereton
BRERETON was beaten by the barest of margins two starts back in the Debutante Stakes, but managed to stick the nose out in the Maribyrnong Plate last start to beat Renosu. The other two main chances in the market are first starters, so his race experience could come to the fore, especially around Caulfield which can be a graveyard for many horses.
Gold Coast - Race 2 No. 4 Shebringzit
This mare recently joined the Gollan stable and looks set for a good prep with him while she is fit and firing after a last start win at Sunshine Coast. The daughter of seemed Sebring looked to relish the soft conditions last time and although will be tested in heavy 10 conditions for the first time, hopefully the Sebring blood comes to the fore. She is unbeaten at 2200m and there was a touch of arrogance about last start that signalled that she could well be in career best form.
Rosehill Race 3 No. 4 Rebel Rama
REBEL RAMA gets back the services of Tommy Berry, who saluted on her first-up and she won over the Rosehill 2000m last prep before the QLD Oaks. Ran the best closing splits over 1800m third-up and has the perfect flat form now to launch. Best stayer in the field, wet track is a tick and if they can make ground, she looks awfully hard to beat.
Caulfield Race 4 No. 7 Curran
Certainly no lack of speed in this event, so going with something that has a turn of foot from off midfield which is CURRAN. He is a model of consistency and is better suited around a bend rather than straight racing. His first-up win at Moonee Valley was so strong over 955m and now he is coming back from 1200m of last start to the 1000m here which looks the ideal move in my eyes. Although he seems a 1200m type, with an abundance of early pace, he is going to get his chance to nail them in the final bounds with plenty of clear air to his outside.
Rosehill - Race 5 No. 5 New King
NEW KING grinded away with 61.5kg on a leader's track last start and loved the second-up run where he picked-up again late. After 12 months off, he should be near his top now with three runs under the belt and drops to 58kg for a slight rise in grade. Made light work of Frosty Rocks in his last heavy track attempt, which reads superbly for this.
