Read the reasons for our selections below:
Randwick - Race 5 No. 8 More Prophets
More Prophets is a classy mare that was well placed resuming fresh at 78 level against her own sex and it was a complete forgive for a runner that does need momentum and galloping room, two things she wasn't afforded off a slow tempo. J-Mac jumps aboard for this second-up engagement in a bigger field that will suit. I like her staying at 1200m for now and she's worth another chance.
Eagle Farm - Race 5 No. 9 Whozyadeeler
This galloper won his first two starts for the prep when last in work before proving too keen in the run last time out. Fresh for this, he is the type that looks as if he will improve over a little further, but being a keen horse this should suit first-up over a sprinting trip. It would be beneficial if there was a drop of rain around but that is not going to happen, so hopefully his class that he showed last time in comes to the fore.
Randwick - Race 6 No. 1 Four Moves Ahead
Four Moves Ahead looks on a Flight Stakes/Thousand Guineas path, so while it'll be perhaps a slower build up than her first campaign, she might simply just be better than what doesn't look an overly strong fillies' crop. She was easily the best filly from the autumn despite already having peaked before the majors and was hard to miss late when strong through the line in a recent Randwick trial.
Moonee Valley - Race 6 No. 4 Hilal
Hilal is a proper group one horse which is what stands him out on this program. He was very good over 1200m in the Pago Pago against the likes of group one horses Shaquero, Tiger Of Malay, Ingratiating and Converge, then running second twice at group one level in the Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes. He is all class, but it also accepted for Sydney, so if he runs here he is the clear best bet of the day and just about the month for mine.
Moonee Valley - Race 9 No. 11 Degraves
Degraves looks the next best of the day after an impressive Flemington win where he was as green as grass, but showed a super motor. Jamie Kah hops aboard, he will take a nice position in running from the good gate and hopefully pounce on the bend and put them away. He no doubt will be wanting further as the prep goes on but he is such an exciting animal going places.
