Read the reasons for our selections:
Rosehill - Race 5 No. 1 Harpo Max
HARPO MARX is improving with every start and on the seven-day back-up, has given his rivals a galloping lesson on July 10, smashing the clock in the process (around five and a half lengths faster for the last 600m than the next fastest). He looks too good for off season company, is arguably more effective on firmer ground and only goes up 1kg for staying in a BM78.
Caulfield - Race 6 No. 3 Murrumbidgee River
MURRUMBIDGEE RIVER is a stayer on the up and looks as though he'll get this trip. He impressed on debut and really rocketed to the line at Sandown over 1800m last start while Jamie Kah. If they are starting to get to the outside, good luck to his opposition as he clearly has the best turn-of-foot in the field.
Doomben - Race 7 No. 4 Indispensable
This ex-Victorian was costly at his first couple of starts in Queensland for the prep before producing a big rating last start when back to Doomben. It is fair to say that this is his favourite track, previously racing here and winning, while the mile journey is his pet trip with two wins and two placings from five starts. He will go to the front, he has the 3kg claim and he should give them another galloping lesson.
Caulfield - Race 9 No. 6 Zesty Belle
ZESTY BELLE was great first-up when rocketing home here over 1100m. She was a blackbooker coming out of that event and is one to catch either early in her preparations (bolted in second-up at Felmington last campaign). This three-year-old looks one of the better bets of the program to me.
Rosehill - Race 10 No. 2 Frosty Rocks
FROSTY ROCKS won two either side of a spell before attempting a Stradbroke Qualifier, but he didn't handle a firm Eagle Farm deck and then was tried at 1800m, a trip he doesn't get. The striking grey is much better suited bowling along out front as a sprinter/miler, and because of a missed run on July 10, had another trial on July 16 where the handbrake was firmly applied late.
