Read the reasons for our selections:
Caulfield - Race 1 No. 4 Set The Sails
SET THE SAILS was a good thing beaten first-up when stuck in traffic out the back, only to flash late and miss by a head. He wins in the next stride but it was not to be, but it was a brilliant debut in that which puts him in good stead heading into this event. He may be short, but he looks the winner.
Randwick - Race 4 No. 2 More Prophets
Looks a race of two and going the way of the talented MORE PROPHETS who considering the $5 starting price (favourite) second-up in a strong Group Three Dark Jewel, is a more than acceptable quote at $4+ in a 78 against her own sex. Return was good against a smart sprinter and the Scone effort was fine. Suited staying at 1400m in what should be a truly run affair.
Eagle Farm - Race 6 No. 3 Price Of Boom
PRINCE OF BOOM was electric last start in the Champagne Classic when showing a huge turn of foot. That made it two wins from as many starts with only improvement to come. The question is now whether he can extend that turn of foot over 1400m, and if he can, write his name down as the best bet of the month in the Atkins.
Randwick - Race 7 No. 3 April Rain
Off two trials and being under the tightest of holds in the last of those, APRIL RAIN was always going to improve off the fresh run and was set a monster task at Gosford, with class alone nearly getting her there. I suspect Chris Waller had a QLD winter in mind with her (Tatts Tiara) when putting this talented mare away in February and she needs to putting this lot away to warrant a trip north.
Eagle Farm - Race 8 No. 13 Savatiano
SAVATIANO looks the one to beat off the back of a great campaign where she was the Group One Canterbury Stakes winner and Group One All-Aged Stakes runner-up. She has the tactical speed to race handy and a punchy turn of foot which sees her in the money more often than not. At Eagle Farm, we want to be closer to the speed than out the back, so to me, she looks the clear best bet on this program.
