Warwick Farm Blackbook Runners - Wednesday, January 8

Seven races were run on a Soft 5 surface at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and good wagers were landed over the program with well supported runners in Katalin, Travest, Magic Over The Bay and Missybeel all saluting.

We've highlighted three runners below to follow from the program.

Warwick Farm Race 1 - Valdostana

I suspect this maiden will be a decent form race moving forward and this filly prepared by Team Hawkes should be breaking through shortly.

Barrier ten was ultimately her undoing in the end where she was covering extra ground throughout and hence forced Koby Jennings hand a little early to sustain a long run home.

Under them trying circumstances, it still took what appears to be a smart debutante winner in Katalin to beat her only in the stride and they were the two strongest runners at the finish.

Probably wins here with a better alley irrespective and Valdostana shouldn't be a maiden for much longer.

Likely Target: There's a 3yo Fiillies maiden over 1250m at Canterbury on January 22 that fits into the program nicely.

Warwick Farm Race 2 - Cathars

A resuming Godolphin gelding can be forgiven for this fresh performance.

After being behind the eight ball early after a tardy getaway, he did manage to tack on enough to be within striking distance rounding the turn for home.

From there on is where it got messy as he was behind a wayward Garrison and then as soon as the run briefly looked to appear, it was closed by the stablemate Charles Seven at a key stage.

Never really tested or let down, so to get within two lengths of the winner after all of that is a decent effort and the form around his two runs via his first campaign reads very well.

Likely Target: There's plenty of maidens around in that six to seven furlong range.

Warwick Farm Race 6 - Through The Cracks

Despite a run of four outs to begin this preparation, it's tough to be critical of this attempt.

Was under pressure early after beginning a little slow and inside alley, was forced to make ground and his eventual move in the worst part of the track and behind Chat and Rari who had a much softer time of things.

Take out the first two home and he's beaten fourth by a length and a half whilst he was clearly the winner of those competing via the inside lanes.

Rattled off the fastest last 600m of this event and in the right setup, Through The Cracks is worth another chance.

Likely Target: Perhaps drops back to 1200m but he does still safely get in at Benchmark 70 level.
