Our race-by-race preview for day five of Royal Ascot 2025 is below.
Royal Ascot 2025 - Day 5 Preview
Race 1 - Chesham Stakes Tips
If this week is anything to go by, then it will be Coolmore or Godolphin who wins Saturday's opener.
Moments Of Joy was the second-string when she won on debut, and Aidan O'Brien's filly will get weight from the field. Treanmor cost Godolphin over £2m and looked high-class when scoring on debut at Newmarket.
As my tips haven't gone to plan during this Royal Ascot, I'm going to kick off my selections with a real Hail Mary, and back 3. TAILGUNNER JOE, who has firmed in the early markets.
Dylan Cunha's colt is one of two newcomers in the field, both of whom will be hoping to emulate Holloway Boy - who won this race on debut in 2022.
Tailgunner Joe is US-bred and he'll be the first progeny of recent Breeders' Cup Classic winner Knicks Go to race in Europe, and he's a half-brother to George Weaver's classy mare Sacred Wish, who was also a Group 1 winner on US soil.
Cunha is no mug when it comes to training juveniles and his two two-year-old runners this week have performed well at massive prices.
Race 2 - Hardwicke Stakes Tips
Having taken down a Godolphin hot-pot earlier in the season, I'm backing 3. BELLUM JUSTUM against Rebel's Romance here.
Andrew Balding's colt got the better of Silver Knott when the two met in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket.
PJ McDonald's mount saw off the odds-on favourite to claim his first victory over a mile-and-a-half, and he won't carry a penalty for that Group Two success on Saturday.
Bellum Justum was well-beaten behind Jan Brueghel on his most recent start on softish ground in the Coronation Cup, but got within a neck of that rival when they met on more favourable ground in last season's Gordon Stakes.
Balding's colt placed behind two classy operators when third in the Hampton Court Stakes 12 months ago, and the rest of his form on fast ground is high-class.
Race 3 - Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Tips
There are question marks against several of the leading contenders, with the favourite Lazzat has never raced in Britain before, or on ground as fast as this.
The Japanese raider Satono Reve is used to this sort of ground, but racing in Britain is completely different to what he's used to, while Aidan O'Brien is convinced that Storm Boy will be a different horse come Royal Ascot, but that stable debut at the Curragh was too poor to ignore.
Lazzat is one of the few proven front-runners in the field and Ryan Moore will want Storm Boy to go forward too, who have drawn out in stalls 11 and 15 respectively, so the proven Ascot performer 5. INISHERIN seems to be drawn perfectly up in stall 13.
Kevin Ryan's sprinter ran out a clear-cut winner of the Commonwealth Cup at this meeting 12 months ago.
Things went a little pear-shaped thereafter, with Inisherin finishing fifth as the favourite in the July Cup, and out the back in the Sprint Cup at Haydock.
The favourite returned to winning ways on his reappearance in the Duke Of York Stakes, while Inisherin didn't get the easiest passage through the race from stall one, but asserted at the furlong pole and held on from the fast-finishing Flora Of Bermuda.
Ryan said after that race that Inisherin suffered a set-back in the winter, suggesting that his star wasn't fully revved up for that return at York.
Coming back to Royal Ascot has clearly been the plan and Inisherin can claim his second Royal victory on Saturday.
I'm still not ready to give up on 7. JASOUR, who ran better in the King Charles III Stakes than the finishing position suggests.
Clive Cox's sprinter can be slowly away, which has been his downfall on plenty of occasions.
Jim Crowley's mount sat last in the group along the inside rail early on and managed to make some late gains, despite being forced to angle towards the centre of the track to make up ground.
Cox has added tongue tie for this step back up to six furlongs - a trip that Jasour has excelled at in the past.
Crowley's mount boasts plenty of strong form here at Ascot and hopefully that run on Tuesday has put him spot on for this assignment.
Race 4 - Jersey Stakes Tips
This doesn't seem like a particularly high-quality renewal of the Jersey Stakes and 4. COMANCHE BRAVE has the opportunity to build on a promising effort in the Irish 2000 Guineas.
Donnacha O'Brien's colt took his chance in that Classic, having given Henri Matisse a run for his money in the trial at Leopardstown.
Comanche Brave travelled nicely into contention, but was bumped around when sandwiched between two runners at the two pole, and could only stay on to finish fifth as Field Of Gold romped to victory.
This son of Wootton Bassett is at his best on fast ground and his draw in stall six should be fine.
With none of his father's runners in the field, Ryan Moore takes the ride and Donnacha's strike rate at the Royal Meeting is excellent.
Race 5 - Wokingham Stakes Handicap Tips
The high draw bias that governs the straight course handicaps earlier in the week doesn't always play out in the Wokingham.
Plenty of horses have won from lowish stalls, with Unequal Love even scoring from stall one 12 months ago.
Stall 14 could prove to be ideal for 23. COMPLETELY RANDOM, who loves to be aimed at a fast past.
They crawled along early on his most recent outing at Newbury, and Harry Charlton's sprinter was squeezed for room as he tried to open up and catch Aramram and Run Boy Run, who were at the front throughout.
Callum Rodriquez's mount showed his pace with a five-furlong victory at Southwell in April, and followed up in the King Richard III Cup at Leicester.
Completely Random is proven on faster ground and has front-running types like Get It and Germanic drawn nearby to bring him into the race.
So far, it's been a poor meeting for Karl Burke, with two third-placed finishes the best his horses have been able to muster and he'll be represented by 6. KORKER here, who is a classy six-year-old.
Seven-pound claimer, Jack Nicholls has ridden Korker on his two most recent starts and Burke's sprinter, as he usually does, was very slowly away but stayed on to finish third on both occasions, clocking RPRs of 108 and 110.
Korker is no stranger to challenging in large-field handicaps off this sort of mark and he does have some decent Ascot form to his name.
Even a modest start could see him well placed to challenge.
Race 6 - Golden Gates Handicap Tips
I've backed Seraph Gabriel at 10/1 for this handicap ante-post, as he's clearly been laid out for it.
Yet, Ralph Beckett's horses have been running so poorly for the last six weeks or so, I can't bring myself to put the market leader up at 7/2.
William Buick, the Gosdens and Wathnan Racing have enjoyed a terrific week and all three combine here with 11. ERNST BLOFELD.
A winner on his second all-weather start at Kempton, this Frankel colt was too keen when third on his turf debut in the Listed Newmarket Stakes, and stayed on to finish fourth when making his handicap debut in the London Gold Cup.
John & Thady Gosden's three-year-old over-raced again in the early stages at Newbury, so I'm not surprised to see cheek-pieces go on for this assignment.
Ernst Blofeld is nicely bred and, when he learns to settle, he's open to plenty of further improvement.
Race 7 - Queen Alexandra Stakes Tips
1. SOBER should win a low-key card-closer to Britain's best horse racing festival.
Willie Mullins' recruit was a Group 2 winner on the flat in France and made a winning start over hurdles for new connections last month.
With Ryan Moore in the saddle, the odds-on favourite should deliver, although I'm not usually one to dive in at prices this short.
