Strathalbyn Tips September 23

Commercial Hotel Class 2 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Strathalbyn Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Sunmate

Returning to his home track and coming back to midweek grade is this five-year-old who whilst hasn't delivered on some early potential, does get a few key changes here.

Following two wins last winter, this son of Ambidexter has been very competitive via some much stronger races in Adelaide with the most recent highlight behind a second to Midnight Storm first-up this campaign.

If he produces anything close to that performance, then he should be awfully hard to beat in a midweek Class 2 where the blinkers now go on and gun jockey Toddd Pannell takes back the reins, who was aboard for his two victories last year.

He has some excuses last start off a freshen-up when racing wide at Morphettville and although he has been a little disappointing in recent times, is very capable of bouncing back in a race of this strength.

Fleurieu Milk Company Rating 0-58 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Strathalbyn Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Is That So

He's been heavily supported in both runs this preparation and had no luck when going around as one of our selections on the September 9 card from Murray Bridge.

The former NSW galloper landed in a plumb spot early on that occasion as a well backed favourite ($5.00-$3.10) but in the home straight, simply never got a look at them.

Senior jockey Paul Gatt is now in the saddle of Is That So and he is Sue & Jason Jaensch's preferred rider having combined for 16 winners for this stable over the last 12 months.

Although drawn out, I suspect he'll look to roll forward irrespective and stripping fitter for a race that isn't any harder, he's worth another chance.

Northpoint Fleurieu Benchmark 62 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Strathablyn Value Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Pivotal Force

On a somehat unique circuit, we always have to respect the local gallopers at Strathalbyn and this in-form five-year-old falls into that category.

The partnership of Wayne Francis and Glen Kent prepare this gelding who was last seen making good inroads for third behind an unbeaten Pindaric at Morphettville on September 12.

Given he was a month between runs on that occasion, he's certainly open for improvement on his home track where he's won two of four attempts over and off his past two efforts, looks much better suited stepping up to the 1350m now.

Pivotal Force is generally thereabouts and as one of very few participating in this last race from Strathablyn that looks to be holding their form, he should be in the mix at an each-way price.
