2019 Lexus Stakes Best Bets

The Lexus Stakes is one of the few races where the winner is exempt from the ballot for the Melbourne Cup, run just three days later.

The race is of Group Three status and is run over 2500m, carrying a purse worth $300,000.

The record of horses backing up from the Lexus is very strong with Shocking being the last duel winner back in 2009. Maluckyday, Signoff and Prince Of Arran have been placed in the top four after taking out the race in the past eight years.

This year, Prince Of Arran is likely to search for back-to-back wins in this race as he is still outside the 24 for the race.

He was strong in the Herbert Power on Caulfield Stakes day, only be beaten a couple of strides before the post. A win there would have qualified him for both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup, which is why he'll line up in the Lexus.

Charlie Fellowes looks to be taking the same path towards the event this year as he did last year, second up into the Lexus which looks a great formula to me.

Prince Of Arran beat Brimham Rocks in this race last year who was in fantastic form at the time.

This year he look likely to face a weaker field and he is Melbourne Cup place getter so he is clearly the class horse of the field.

If he can win his way into the race, he looks again a big chance to take out the $8 million feature three days later.

He was brave behind Surprise Baby who is your Melbourne Cup favourite, so that form would put him in good stead for this race.

This consistent horse is one of those that has looked like putting a big win on the board for some time now and this race could be it.

He has nice acceleration and as we saw in the Bart Cummings, he handles Flemington well.

If he can draw soft and be smothered up for the majority of the run, he is the horse that could challenge Prince Of Arran.

What time is the first race on Lexus Stakes day?

The first race is run at approximately 11.30am.
