Benbatl roars into 2020 Saudi Cup contention
After making a successful debut on the Dubai dirt for team Godolphin, star galloper Benbatl stormed into Saudi Cup calculations.
Benbatl, who was not even quoted in the initial Saudi Cup betting market, was moved onto the third line of betting at $6 with online bookmaker Bet365 following the powerful win.
The five-year-old cruised around the Dubai track on his dirt debut as a well-supported $3 commodity and had many of the other horses off the bit at the turn. Christophe Soumillon then asked the colt to extend and he sprinted away from the field, sending shockwaves around the horse racing community.
The bookies are still siding with the horse that was first past the post in the 2019 Kentucky Derby as the Saudi Cup draws closer, but the odds could shift in Benbatl's favour on race day.
