Sandown Racing Tips For 22 January 2020

Sandown hosts a nine race card under twilight conditions on the Lakeside track.

The rail sits out three metres and we are currently on a Good 4 that may downgrade to a soft, depending on how much rain we get over the next 24 hours.

We are going with a mare that has not been a punter's pal of late, but we are giving her one last chance.

Race 4 No. 5 Prism

We are trusting McNeil and Lindsay Park to get this one home for us.

This 4YO mare has been very good at her last three outings, winning well at Moe and running midfield at Moonee Valley.

Last start she was beaten a length at Caulfield behind two horses that have both been subsequent city second place getters, so the from looks strong.

To me, she looks the most likely winning chance in the race, seeing that she showed three back she wants to win and that she drops from a much stronger Saturday class event.

The 2100m should suit and the big track will also be a positive factor.

Race 9 No. 4 Bianconi Magic

Blinkers on first time on Bianconi Magic is what is key here.

He has just struggled to find that explosive turn of foot that we saw last prep, but what we get now is a step back in trip and a vital gear change.

The 1400m journey looks much more suitable, especially after such a strong run two back behind Manhattan Arch.

Barrier 14 looks sticky, so I think he will be going back and making his run down the outside, hoping these blinkers can get him motoring.

His form has been around strong horses and the fact that Craig Williams has hopped back aboard, we can assume this is a sign that the stable believe he is strong winning chance.

At double figures, he is a nice bet to finish of an even race.

Race 8 No. 2 Bam's On Fire

We are having one last go at this mare, seeing that she now has the near side blinker on for the first time, the bubble cheeker comes off and she now gets a lugging bit.

I have noticed that since the bubble cheeker came on after her first up run, she lost that explosiveness, whereas now we have a lugging bit to ensure she does not drift inwards.

She really does get all conditions to suit here, finding herself with 60kg when her rating is eight points above the benchmark.

Barrier five ensures she will find cover and not be trapped on the fence, and maybe even settle a little further forward.

The form from her last start has been franked with Montenegro Man running so well at Flemington, so we can say that was a good run.

Her danger in big Jumbo Ozaki is first up over 1200m for a new stable, so I would prefer to see him seeing it has been a long time since he has seen the winner's stall.

Race 6 No. 3 Think We're Due

His first up run at Caulfield really impressed me, when darting up along the inside to miss by a length.

The main query is that he is five weeks between runs and steps up to the mile, but with a little rain about, he may get his perfect racing surface.

Jamie Kah also hops aboard, who rode the gelding to his last victory, a six length win at that.

From barrier four, he will get a very cozy run in behind the speed where he can peel out as they turn.

The Lakeside track will suit better than the Hillside I think, seeing as this blokes turn of foot is short and sharp.

His form does not read all that well second up, but over the mile it is very strong, so I am happy to side with him in what looks a great race.
