Sandown Preview, Tips & Best Bets

Back at Sandown this Wednesday for another mid-week program, but this time we are on the lakeside track. Often the lakeside track can prove to be more favourable to those on the pace, but I have found a few winners that may just be too good for the field coming from the back.

Sandown Favourites

Race 3 No. 3 Bass - $3.20 via BetEasy

The ex European horse was well spruiked in his first three starts last campaign in Australia. He was the definition of enormous first up at Sandown coming from last to early swoop the entire field.

He was then disappointing second and third up, but I feel of late, first up is when you want to be backing these Williams owned horses.

Ben Melham rides a lot of walk for the Williams owned horses so you could presume he would be well acquainted with this horse.

First up is the only time I will be backing this horse and I do believe he can sit out the back and be too good for this mid-weekers.

Sandown Roughies

Race 7 No. 9 Waltonia - $10 via BetEasy

This galloper has opened up overs considering she is at her top on good tracks. She has been running well without winning up against some proper city horses, all on rain effected tracks.

She was just beaten in a benchmark 70 race at Moonee Valley last preparation on top of the ground which is the exact scenario she strikes here.

Teo Nugent will take the ride and claim two kilos on her, pulling her weight back down to 55.5kg. She is yet to miss a place on the firm tracks and being on the pace with a short burst of acceleration is often a positive thing at Lakeside.

Sandown Best Bet

Race 5 No. 5 Jumbo Ozaki

It doesn't take a genius to find this horse as the best of the day, but a win is a win.

Big Jumbo was very good at Flemington first up down the straight where he probably wasn't all that suited first up. He was the race favourite but he was up against fit horses and with no experience own the straight it was always going to be a tough race.

He steps up to the 1400m here which should be an ideal distance for him. He has has one start over the seven furlongs for one very luckless third at Flemington behind a stakes performed horse.

Second up he should be fit and ready to run, with the firming track this should also play in his favour.

Best Bet: Jumbo Ozaki - $2.15 via BetEasy

Race 1 No. 8 Triton Rising

I have been waiting for this girl to come back to the races after her only run last campaign.

She ran third in what was an on-pace race dominated by the two in front, who are both city class gallopers. She was the favourite and was just a little green out the back of the field before coming home in some of the fastest sectionals of the day, and the second fastest 200m to post split of the day in 12.08.

She won a jumpout leading into this on the 16th, where she sat out the back and just ran over the top of them with another gear still left in her.

She is a blue blood being by Vain Queen and if she can possess half of her mums ability, she will be a stakes class horse in not time.

Sandown Next Best Bet: Triton Rising - $2.80 via BetEasy
