Ascot Roughie Tip
Ascot Roughie - Race 3 No. 9 Fanz
He's been consistent all prep, with a return win followed by competitive showings at Bunbury and Fanz has run the fastest last 200m in two of his last three events.
While this is contested on a Saturday, it's worth noting that it's a Class 3 add-on from a recent abandoned meeting and he has been racing in similar company.
Fanz just peaked late in his last appearance, where he loomed from the rear before finishing half a length away in fourth and the drop in trip here is no negative.
He ran into a very progressive winner two starts back before going to a Class 5 last time and with even luck in transit, he's an each-way chance in a weak race.
Caulfield Roughie Tip
Caulfield Roughie - Race 7 No. 8 Plymouth
It should be a good three-year-old form race going forward, with Guineas and potentially even some Derby contenders for interstate carnivals to come from this.
Plymouth is likely to furnish over more ground, but 1400ms suits on return and once the distances do increase, he could be the best horse to come out of this race.
He was very raw in four appearances over his first campaign, but The Autumn Sun gelding clearly has talent and blinkers have been applied for this fresh assignment.
The $2.70 starting price via vs Treasurethe Moment (VRC Oaks winner) has to be respected and Plymouth looks up to mark off two 800m jump-out's in January.
Doomben Roughie Tip
Doomben Roughie - Race 8 No. 3 This'llbetheone
He'll likely improve off whatever is delivered in Saturday's first-up showing, however, This'llbetheone appears to be little sharper for this fresh attempt.
A trial and jump-out has him tuned up for the 1350m, a distance which is a little short of his best, although a strong 2000m left him vulnerable in two September runs.
On paper, he looks superbly placed under the No Metro Wins conditions, given the six-year-old is bringing a string of consistent form from stronger company.
The first prep for Jack Bruce was a good one, which included a track-record breaking run for the 1650m at Doomben and his early season references read well for this.
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 2 Lumber Punk
This is the easiest race that he's seen in Adelaide and while his last prep fell away late in handy events, his prior efforts vs Sir Sway and Zebella were encouraging.
Lumber Punk was no slouch when prepared by the Corstens yard in Victoria, where he won six races and the last of those was at metro level just under a year ago.
Two starts prior to that Moonee Valley success, he did place behind Show Some Decorum and Red Phantom, with that quinella a few rungs above anything here.
He was sound when second in a January 28 trial, while the Pickering and Collett combo teamed up last Saturday with Just Like Lisa, who saluted at 20/1.
Randwick Roughie Tip
Randwick Roughie - Race 2 No. 1 Turned Down
His only first-up defeat was a narrow loss as runner-up to a useful Mogwai and Turned Down was produced off no public work when winning fresh last campaign.
He was tipped out after two subsequent misses, although the four-year-old wasn't disgraced in the last of those and his second-up try came via a metro BM72.
Turned Down's last victory was recorded with a 3kg claimer aboard and he'll get weight relief on Saturday, with apprentice Benjamin Osmond taking the reins.
It's an open Highway, but he's a proven fresh performer and with Turned Down likely to make his own luck on the speed, he makes some each-way appeal at a big price.
