Ascot Roughie Tip

Ascot Roughie - Race 7 No. 7 Ex Sport Girl

She didn't come up via a short winter prep last year, however, Ex Sport Girl did work nicely in a soft Lark Hill trial leading into her January 11 resumption.

The Steve Wolfe-trained galloper was fractious in the barriers via that Albany return and as a result of her bad behaviour, she was slow way from the gates.

Ex Sport Girl was set a task due to the slow beginning and despite that, the mare would've finished much closer with clear room earlier in the run home.

The five-year-old generally settles on the speed and Shaun McGruddy takes back the reins on Saturday (he's been aboard for two of her four career victories).

Doomben Roughie Tip

Doomben Roughie - Race 10 No. 10 Jayanthi

While she finished eighth-of-nine via her Sunshine Coast return, that first-up effort is worth forgiving and the mare had no prior fresh wins to her name.

Jayanthi appeared to loom into that 1200m event well, but in a slowly run race that was dominated by the on-speed runners, she was completely unsuited.

The six-year-old brings decent second-up stats (two wins and second) and the last of those was a narrow loss to Brereton, who was in good touch at the time.

She jumped well in that recent fresh outing, so there's an option of using gate one early and Jayanthi also worked nicely in a December trial at Doomben.

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 5 Beach Pad

1250m might be a little on the short side for Beach Pad, however, class can take him a long way in a thin race for his first South Australian assignment.

The gelding showed ability in Western Australia, which included an eye-catching debut victory and he rounded out his first prep with three tries in stakes company.

He was then competitive in a short campaign earlier this season and Beach Pad opened that prep with a second behind Trio (subsequent Saturday winner).

The four-year-old moved well in a quiet trial on December 24, which Jason Holder sticks from and Don'tdoubtlayla (first-up winner) took out that Oakbank heat.

Rosehill Roughie Tip

Rosehill Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 Promitto

An open race starts Saturday's Rosehill Quaddie and despite being one of the outsiders in this line-up, Promitto is at least an each-way hope at huge odds.

He didn't quite deliver on the early promise, however, the David Atkins-trained galloper rediscovered winning touch at the back-end of his last prep.

His prior second to West Of Africa reads well and in a much stronger race to what he finds on Saturday, Promitto was far from disgraced in his last fresh outing.

1100m was too slick in that Canterbury tilt, with 1350m a more suitable starting point still and the recent lead-up work suggests that he's in for a good campaign.

Sandown Roughie Tip

Sandown Roughie - Race 5 No. 9 Inkaruna

Anthony Freedman has prepared three of the last six Blue Diamond winners, which includes back-to-back victories in partnership with his son, Sam.

Inkaruna looms as one their leading Blue Diamond contenders for this year, with the debutante gaining the services of an in-form Craig Williams.

While her latest workout on January 25 was sound, she was sharper (without headgear) in her previous two and that includes an 800m Flemington heat in September.

The double figure quote is gone due to the scratching of Tempted, who was the early market elect, but an each-way price is still available for Inkaruna.
