Ascot Roughie Tip

Ascot Roughie - Race 1 No. 7 Mystical Man

The seven-year-old has no winning first or second-up form, so there's improvement to come third-up over a more suitable trip and he brings the Border Force form from his last run.

Despite starting as 40/1 chance in that November 5 event, there's no doubting that Mystical Man should've finished much closer there as he was in traffic.

He only getting clear when the race was over and from that 1600m clash, the Mollie Clark-trained galloper has a 4kg weight swing on Border Force (fav).

Now fitter and with a low draw over this longer trip, there's no reason they can't be more positive this time and off that luckless last showing, he's over the odds here.

Caulfield Roughie Tip

Caulfield Roughie - Race 10 No. 1 Serasana

Aiming to break a 12-month drought that dates back to this program last year is Serasana, who brought up that Sandown Guineas triumph over this track/trip on a Soft 7 surface.

She wasn't able to progress over the autumn after a good but unlucky return at Caulfield and now third-up over a more suitable distance, the daughter of Schnitzel looks set to peak.

The four-year-old was outside the leader and exposed on the November 16 card, where she was okay vs the pattern of the day and there's improvement to come.

We're seeing a lot of these early prep horses starting to peak now vs rivals who have been up longer/have had grand finals, and this Group 3 looks a target for Serasana

Doomben Roughie Tip

Doomben Roughie - Race 6 No. 12 Twigman

With four runs completed this prep, Paul Shailer couldn't have this honest five-year-old any fitter and he's big odds on Saturday despite bringing decent form.

The Port Macquarie Cup references through Redstone Well read well enough for this, as does the last start performance when brave via a tough run in the Little Dance.

Not only does Twigman find a more winnable assignment here, but he'll get underfoot conditions to his likening (has won three from four tries on heavy ground).

He's well placed under the handicap conditions of this Class 6, where the son of Preferment gets weight off most key rivals and his last season form also stacks up.

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 6 No. 3 Wonderwomen

While she can mix her form, Wonderwomen can turn it around quickly and that was evident on this meeting 12 months ago when taking out a very similar race.

The six-year-old arrived to that December 2 tilt off two plain showings, with blinkers going on providing a spark there and that gear change has been on effect of late.

Her return effort on November 2 doesn't read well, although there were some excuses, where she over-raced before being held-up and she was also in the worst going.

Also, it's worth noting that she has no winning fresh form to her name, however, the second-up stats read okay and Jason Holder taking the reins is another positive.

Rosehill Roughie Tip

Rosehill Roughie - Race 10 No. 12 Dehorned Unicorn

A genuine heavy track might be a query with Dehorned Unicorn, but he'll at least be hard fit on a testing surface and the gelding has been in decent touch this prep.

His first and second-up form through Pisanello and Headwall reads very well for this grade, while he was also good last time out at Canterbury when unsuited.

Dehorned Unicorn was back and keen in a muddling affair via that third-up tilt, and the market is respecting that form through Eye Of The Fire (second fav).

Kerrin McEvoy stays aboard and with the experienced hoop on a tactically versatile galloper, he can find the middle/wider lanes late if the inside chops out.
