Ascot Roughie Tip
Ascot Roughie - Race 4 No. 3 Santa Brae
He's more capable than his record suggests and after a brave on-speed win in an Ascot Class 3 last prep, Santa Brae was competitive in Saturday metro company.
1200m proved too sharp via his September 9 return, however, that was a better run than it reads and the gelding then contested a 66+ second-up over a mile.
Santa Brae had no luck in that last outing, where he stuck on quite well after a tough run and that 1600m outing should top him off nicely for this 1800m tilt.
That September 21 event has proven to be handy form race, with two subsequent metro winners coming from that affair and he now draws barrier one.
Caulfield Roughie Tip
Caulfield Roughie - Race 3 No. 12 Moesha
She's by I Am Invincible and out of the smart mare Princess Coup (four-time Group 1 winner), with Moesha a half-sister to Argentia (dual Group 3 winner).
Although she hasn't quite put it together, the four-year-old has placed twice at Group 2 level and there's should be a black-type win in her at some stage.
Moesha wasn't comfortable when in restricted room fresh over this track/trip, where an outside run closed in the straight and she now gets the blinkers back on.
Give that it's a one-turn 1200m sprint at Caulfield, the wide barrier might suit Moesha second-up, as she'll get the galloping room that she requires under Luke Nolen.
Eagle Farm Roughie Tip
Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 6 No. 14 Who Ordered Dafish
This four-year-old is only in his third campaign and he did make inroads via his second prep, with two wins and two placings recorded from six appearances.
Who Ordered Dafish was strong late via his 1350m fresh tilt and while the subsequent form has come at a lower lever level, he still beat home three subsequent winners.
Apprentice hoop Emily Lang stays aboard the son of Headwater and for this 1500m metro Class 3 assignment, the gelding carries only 53kg after the claim.
A rise in trip and the switch to a bigger circuit are both positives here, while rain affected ground also won't trouble Who Ordered Dafish, as he handles all surfaces.
Murray Bridge Roughie Tip
Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 10 No. 2 Goliotus
His stats when campaigning at 2000m+ are good and now fourth-up after going from 1400m to 1800m in his last attempt, Goliotus shouldn't be far away now.
The seven-year-old is more known as a wet tracker, however, his last win was on a Good 3 surface and he also has a Firm 2 triumph on his resume.
Nothing was expected from Goliotus first-up at 100/1, but he still wasn't disgraced in that fresh showing and his two subsequent runs have been okay.
He's carried bigger imposts in all eight of his wins, with most of those victories coming in similar or stronger races, so he's superbly in with 56.5kg after the claim.
Rosehill Roughie Tip
Rosehill Roughie - Race 7 No. 12 Nonconformist
This is good placement by Grahame Begg in aiming Nonconformist at these thin, but rich middle distance Sydney affairs instead of campaigning in Melbourne.
Despite completing strong lead-up work, he started as a $19 chance fresh in the Chelmsford Stakes and that was a lovely return when third in that Group 2.
The subsequent Melbourne form through Buckaroo reads superbly and while he's five weeks between runs, Nonconformist worked well in a September jump-out.
Being produced on the fresh side could be key to him as an older galloper and over a more suitable distance second-up, he finds a very winnable race here.
