Belmont Roughie Tip
Belmont Roughie - Race 4 No. 8 Macciateau
He improved with racing as his second campaign wore on, having recorded back-to-back wins in March before a Listed flop and the gelding was then tipped out.
He's building into this prep well, with Macciateau recording the second-fastest closing splits of a 1427m Class 3 first-up at Bunbury and he remained at that circuit second-up.
The four-year-old appeared to peak late on that wide chasing effort, however, his closing splits were again among the race-fastest and he shouldn't be far away now third-up.
Middle and wider lanes have been favoured at Belmont recently, while he generally likes to get back and wind-up irrespective, so barrier ten isn't necessarily a disadvantage.
Moonee Valley Roughie Tip
Moonee Valley Roughie - Race 3 No. 14 Kipyegon
This is somewhat of a shot at the stumps in a tough race, although, previous campaign patterns point towards a much-improved run from Kipyegon on Saturday.
The five-year-old has thrived deep into her work via prior preps and following a similar lead-up last time in, her fourth, fifth and sixth-up efforts over this distance were all good.
After a 1400m blowout first-up, she was honest in third behind Margie's Boy (subsequent city winner) and she then improved third-up last start at Geelong.
Kipyegon just peaked late in the worst going via that July 26 tilt, but that should top her off nicely and now down in the weights from a low draw, she can give this a shake.
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 4 No. 12 Alainge
After failing to handle a heavy surface fresh, we had her marked as an improver last Saturday and although she was well held, there was merit to that second-up effort.
Murray Bridge is often a momentum track and finding the rail can work against those settling off the speed, with Alainge held-up from the 300m to the 200m in her last outing.
Off last week's effort, the four-year-old is crying out for a little ground, which she gets on the back-up and her last victory came over this track/trip in December.
That Morphettville triumph was also recorded third-up and now with 1kg less despite a senior hoop jumping aboard, Alainge has each-way claims at a decent quote.
Randwick Roughie Tip
Randwick Roughie - Race 6 No. 1 Lady Of Luxury
Given she was coming out of stronger company, the late betting drift last start was a concern and the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper ran accordingly.
Lady Of Luxury didn't handle a testing Heavy 8 surface via that July 27 attempt, so we're happy to forgive that performance and she's now back against her own sex.
Prior to that most recent showing, the mare had excuses when finding trouble in a BM88 third-up and that followed a Listed tilt in QLD, where she was unlucky via a midfield finish.
While she has been tried over a little further, her record suggests that 1200m-1300m is the sweet spot and Josh Parr takes the reins, who has saluted twice on Lady Of Luxury.
Sunshine Coast Roughie Tip
Sunshine Coast Roughie - Race 7 No. 9 Better Be Nordy
This Robert Heathcote-trained galloper is still lightly raced for a five-year-old and after a few little setbacks, Better Be Nordy put in an improved performance last time.
After being bumped at the start, the gelding was forced back and despite working home in restricted room, he recorded the fastest last 200m of that 1100m Ipswich BM70.
He had been freshened right-up ahead of that latest tilt, which followed a somewhat plain return on June 5 and the intention was to step up in trip, which he gets here.
Better Be Nordy was starting to put it together before a January flop, with two wins and a second from his first three runs that prep, which includes a Sunshine Coast victory on soft ground.
