Belmont Roughie - Race 7 No. 9 To Rise Again
Always takes a few runs to hit his straps and after looming briefly before peaking on his July 9 effort, he'll only strip fitter. He doesn't exactly win out of turn, but has been in the money via half of his 26 attempts over this trip and his peak figures stack up nicely. Can run a race here third-up.

Doomben Roughie Tips
Doomben Roughie - Race 5 No. 3 Don't Stop
Has had zero luck in three of four runs this prep. Did a power of work early on July 9 before tiring late and kept surging on July 23 despite racing three-wide the trip, a race he would've won with a kinder draw. Gets to the mile hard fit and now has barrier one, so will get his chance this week.

Doomben Roughie - Race 9 No. 15 Capri Of Tuffy
She's been a good pick-up for Rob Heathcote, recording three wins and three top four finishes from seven attempts for the new yard. Covered ground second-up, which was her worst run for Heathcote, but stuck on third-up. At peak fitness and is now suited back on firmer ground.

Flemington Roughie Tips
Flemington Roughie - Race 6 No. 9 Somerset Maugham
Staying at 1600m and with no second-up form, he was enormous in Adelaide, sustaining a wide run off a muddling tempo to be beaten half a length, whereas the first two both had far softer runs. The subsequent Caulfield run was sound, although he's better suited at Flemington.

Flemington Roughie - Race 9 No. 1 Pas Malotru
Interesting runner is this dual-stakes winning European, who comes via a sole Hong Kong run in 2020. We're seeing a lot of these Hayes runners produce fresh and his lead-up work has been excellent, with a slick trial win followed by a good jump out here. Has ability and this isn't strong.

Murray Bridge Roughie Tips
Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 6 No. 6 Take Me North
Should've finished closer in his Murray Bridge resumption, as he was inconvenienced at a key stage and improved off that to run third over the mile on July 16, where he was never in winning contention, but boxed-on well late. The 1800m is ideal now third-up and this is a decent drop in grade.

Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 9 No. 12 Samesyn
If going of her effort two back, where she was the pick of the chasers behind an impressive Legless Lady, Samesyn would be a $6-$7 chance here. Landed on speed and quickly tired last start, hence the big odds, but given she let down well with a cold ride two back, they may change their tactics.

Randwick Roughie Tips
Randwick Roughie - Race 5 No. 2 Equation
After a terrific three-year-old season, he wasn't the same galloper last spring and is now gelded as a result. Hasn't been knocked around in his last two trials and the 1300m is close to his right trip. All of his wins have come on soft tracks and at BM78 level first-up, he's certainly classy enough.

Randwick Roughie - Race 9 No. 10 Fiordland
Although he was ultimately outclassed third-up behind Alcyone, he picked up again after initially being flat and off the bridle when chasing a good speed, so the mile should be ideal now. His second-up win was strong, when sustaining a long run and should be suited by a softer tempo here.
