Ascot Roughie Tips
Ascot Race 4, No. 7 Avalon Bay
Won first-up at 1400m and staying at that trip last, wasn't as suited, where he was forced to loop the field rather and ran the second fastest last 600m of the race despite having no second-up form.
The step to 1600m now suits as does a kinder draw in six under Paul Harvey, who can ideally settle the five-year-old a pair or two closer early, which will be the key if he's to bounce back.
Ascot Race 7, No. 10 Solid Azza
She put in a monster effort first-up when running some very slick closing splits and although plain following that, that big fresh run may have just flattened her staying at 1000m,
Solid Azza also has no second-up form and in her last attempt over the Ascot 1200m, she beat a listed winner in Miss Frost. Monitor earlier races to see if they can run on out wide.
Ascot Race 10, No. 2 Captain Kink
Has won twice and placed three times at Ascot, while the furthest he's been beaten in eight attempts on this circuit is a 2.5 length defeat in 78+ grade, stronger company than he faces here.
Behind a smart Western Empire, his two lead-up trials were sound (not knocked about) and with a smart 2kg claimer engaged, Captain Kink is a great each-way chance in the last at Ascot.
Caulfield Roughie Tips
Caulfield Race 4, 14 Forever And A Day
She was backed for a fortune over the 1000m at Flemington last start where New York Baby had her covered a furlong from home.
Based on what she has done in previous preps, the 1200m here will be right up her alley and at $101, Forever And A Day is well over the odds.
Caulfield Race 7, No. 6 Chassis
The mare placed second to Bella Nipotina last start, beating rival La Mexicana in the process, who is the $4 favourite for this event, so there's a decent discrepancy there.
Chassis draws a peach of a gate in three and will land in the one-one spot, which will give her every opportunity to kick off the bend and give a really big sight in the opening leg of the quaddie.
Caulfield Race 9, No. 9 Aysar
Plummets in weight after last week’s run at Flemington which could see a peak performance and the pacifiers have been applied to the now hard fit gelding.
The stable have stated it has taken a while to get him going, but no more excuses here and outside a hot favourite in I'm Thunderstruck, this is one for the exotic or each-way players in the Toorak.
Eagle Farm Roughie Tips
Eagle Farm Race 5, No. 9 Sienna’s Choice
A mare in-form is the definition of this four-year-old, who has won her last three races including one at Eagle Farm twoback, which is important as many QLD runners don't handle this firmer surface.
She is finding the will to win which is all you can ask from the mares at this time of the year and in only half a kilo over the minimum, the winning streak can continue.
Eagle Farm Race 9, No. 6 She Za Boss
The six-year-old mare is a previous first-up winner and best of all, loves the Eagle Farm circuit which as mentioned above, can be a horses for courses track.
She Za Boss performs best on good ground and with three trials under the belt, looks primed for a bold effort first-u where she gets good relief after the 3kg claim of Jaden Lloyd.
Morphettville Roughie Tips
Morphettville Race 9 No. 2 Thanasi
Team Oppermann combine in the last from Morphettville with this son of Equiano, a galloper that tends to be thereabouts and deliver the same effort in whatever they throw him in,
With his winning strike rate, Thanasi is not a horse to be taking short odds about, but has only finished outside the money four times since joining this yard and can figure in what is a weak race.
Randwick Roughie Tips
Randwick Race 1 No. 7 Mikado
Had won three of his first five starts for the new yard before attempting a metro BM75 in Brisbane, where he was only beaten a length after racing three-wide throughout.
Mikado completed a sound tick-over trial since that September 4 outing and making his own luck on the speed, he can give a really good sight in the opener from Randwick.
Randwick Race 2, No. 1 Catapult
Was well supported late last start and was tracking into it okay, but couldn't get clear from the 400m to the 200m and it was a tough card to making ground out wide on
With interference, he's been beaten under two lengths and in what is a typcially open Midway, Catapult can chime in late down the outside if the speed is on up front.
Randwick Race 7, No. 2 Exoboom
This gelding sailed straight past Ellsberg in the Hawkesbury Guineas and should've won the Inglis Guineas following that (three-wide throughout) back in the autumn.
Exoboom landed in a hopeless position fresh over 1100m, but the lead-up trial was good behind the smart Entriviere and the 1300m is a big tick for Saturday's second-up tilt.
Captain Kink will run as our best value selection for this Saturday via the last from Ascot.
