Eagle Farm Roughie Tip
Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 10 No. 11 Northern Decree
He progressed to Saturday metro company last autumn, with that prep culminating in an Eagle Farm victory in this grade and that was his third victory at this track.
Northern Decree never quite came up in a short campaign earlier this season, but the gelding appears to be back on track following a first-up triumph at Ipswich.
It was a strong performance from the Robert Heathcote-trained galloper, who found trouble after settling off the speed before an inside run presented in the straight.
He recorded the fastest last 200m of the entire card via 1350m Class 5 on February 5 and Northern Decree is often produced off shorter turnarounds.
Flemington Roughie Tip
Flemington Roughie - Race 5 No. 9 Pioneer River
The last start defeat can be forgiven, where Pioneer River went too hard up front when stepping out to 1400m and he's down back down to 1200m here.
He was competitive in his first three runs for Gavin Bedggood, which included a win before a runner-up finish behind Disneck when contesting a Randwick BM88.
Disneck completed a hat-trick in that Sydney contest before a fourth-place finish when unsuited in a Group 3 and Pioneer River is a proven straight-course performer.
Three of his five wins have come over this track/trip and with speed drawn to his outside, they may opt for a trail (those tactics were adopted via his Cranbourne win).
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 5 No. 2 Darknconfidential
Although he's likely to get over more ground once deeper into the campaign, Darknconfidential could be a progressive horse to follow from this three-year-old race.
The son of Cosmic Force was over a mile when breaking through third-up in his second prep, but he has featured over shorter trips (third over 1000m on debut).
Also, his two biggest failures were both recorded on wet ground and he clashed with the subsequent Victoria Derby winner twice in October before being tipped out.
Trainer Stuart Gower only has a small team and gun hoop Manoel Nunes has been aboard for his last two winners, and that pair combine with Darknconfidential.
Pinjarra Roughie Tip
Pinjarra Roughie - Race 4 No. 3 Weeraechoux
This son of Jimmy Choux is building towards a peak performance and now with three runs under the belt, win number four shouldn't be too far away.
He was need of the run first-up over 1400m, but the gelding bounced of the fresh effort to record a sixth-of-nine finish at Ascot when stepping up to 1800m.
Weeraechoux ran the second-fastest closing splits of that January 11 event, which was also the case last start over 2200m when getting home for third vs an on-speed pattern.
He was decent touch when deep into his last prep, with a second at stakes level before upsetting the Belmont Oaks winner when taking out the Listed Belmont Classic.
Randwick Roughie Tip
Randwick Roughie - Race 9 No. 5 Rise Of The Masses
The forgotten runner could be Rise Of The Masses, who disappointed on return as a single figure chance, however, there were excuses (poor recovery).
Also, the form from that December 7 event has stood up, with two subsequent winners from the race and the five-year-old looks back on track off two trial wins.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained galloper was gelded ahead of this prep and while he has a wide barrier to overcome, he'll roll forward under Tim Clark (could lead).
While his last campaign fell away late, Rise Of The Masses dead-heated with Fall For Cindy in this grade last May and that mare bolted in with a Group 3 at her next start.
