Rosehill Blackbook Runners - Saturday, November 30

Ranier won the feature of the Rosehill program on Saturday when saluting narrowly from the well supported Live and Free in the Group Three Festival Stakes.

Aside from Munstaseera making light work of her oppostion in the opener, I felt it was a meeting where most winners where just well placed and had the favours on the day rather than a card where you'd be in a hurry to follow a lot of them victors next time out.

We've picked out three runners from the meeting that look to have a win in them shortly.

Rosehill Race 2 - Pauper

A four-year-old that put his first two career wins together at the start of this campaign before arriving to this Highway third-up and around six weeks between runs.

It was all over at the beginning for this gelding after making an awful mess of the start where he was four lengths of his nearest rival in last position at the 600m.

The effort from there to make ground for fifth and somehow find himself within two lengths of the winner in the finish was terrific especially as it was a card when it was advantage to be handy to the speed.

He generally jumps well and takes up closer order in the run so happy to forgive this blunder and go off his winning form prior to that.

Likely Target: Is still eligible for Class 2 company and there's no Highways coming up in the next few weeks for his range. Perhaps drops back to country level for now?

Rosehill Race 6 - Black On Gold

Is a while between drinks now is this Chris Waller trained galloper but all three efforts this preparation so far have indicated he's returned in very good order.

By Sebring and out of a half sister to a group one winner in Driefontein, he hasn't been able to salute past ten furlongs yet but has run some nice races over that journey still and is giving the impression he's perhaps looking for further now.

After a tardy getaway, he had to be asked early just to tack on on to the field albeit still settling well back and barring the winner Alward who had the perfect run in transit, Black on Gold was the pick of those out of the chasing pack.

Has shown an ability to settle that few pairs closer in the run via some of his past victories and shouldn't be far off a peak now.

Likely Target: Are they working towards the 2400m Christmas Cup at Randwick on December 14?

Rosehill Race 9 - Our Winnie

I'm convinced that this honest mare from the Gosford yard of Gregory McFarlane is going well and can be placed to win rather shortly.

She looked like going nowhere turning for home when coming off the bit and hitting a flat spot but picked up solidly again in the last furlong and wasn't beaten all that far considering.

This followed a sound chasing effort behind the useful Into The Abyss fresh and was just that run short to be a major threat when heading north to Eagle Farm.

Clearly looking for a little further now and with that, will find less depth in them events this time of year.

Likely Target: They'll be looking for at least a mile now then perhaps look at a 2000m attempt for the first time?
